This is a mission to near-Earth triple asteroid (i.e. asteroid consisting of three bodies) (153591) 2001 SN263. The objectives of the mission are the following: - scientific objectives: exploration of the triple asteroid system; - technological objectives: development in and/or transfer to Brazil of advanced space technologies; - strategic objectives: giving a powerful incentive to the space activity in Brazil. The spacecraft of wet mass at launch of about 150 kg is to be made on the base of Russian space platform Pilgrim designed for a Martian mission. Solar electric propulsion (SEP) is to be used both for orbital maneuvers and attitude control. The planned spacecraft science instruments include imaging camera, laser rangefinder, near infrared spectrometer, synthetic aperture radar (under evaluation), mass spectrometer. The spacecraft trajectory consists of three parts, such as follows: 1) Transfer from the spacecraft parking Earth orbit to the heliocentric trajectory to the asteroid. The spacecraft ascents in the Earth sphere of 25 influence in a spiral orbit, duration of this transfer is about ten months. The moon swingby may be used at the end of the ascent. This may shorten the ascent duration or reduce propellant consumption. 2) Heliocentric transfer to the asteroid. Duration of this transfer is about a year and a half, although it may be shortened by means of more propellant consumption. One or two more asteroids may be encountered during the transfer. At the end of the transfer the spacecraft will approach the triple asteroid with zero relative velocity. 3) Flight in the triple asteroid system. It is planned that the spacecraft will perform exploration of all three bodies of the triple system from close distance. Three possible schemes of the maneuvering in the triple system are considered, such as follows: – sequential exploration of the bodies; – parallel exploration of the bodies; – combined scheme. The schemes are explained in details in the paper. Advantages and disadvantages of the schemes are considered. MOC I-2 Magnetic Field Design for a Strongly Improved PHALL Thruster Alexandre A. Martins (1), Rodrigo Miranda (1,2), José Leonardo Ferreira (1) (1) Plasma Physics Laboratory, University of Brasilia, 70910-900 Brasilia-DF, Brazil, (2) Faculty of Technology of UnB at Gama-DF, Brazil. Since 2004, the Plasma Physics Laboratory (LFP) of University of Brasilia - UnB is developing high efficiency Hall Effect Plasma Thrusters (PHALL) using permanent magnets. These thrusters are now currently being used for commercial and scientific space missions for satellite atitude and orbit control and for long duration space missions in the solar system. In order to simulate the vacuum conditions of the space environment, high vacuum systems are used at LFP, in order to test the thrusters in conditions similar to those that are encountered in space, where they will work. These thrusters have an anode in the form of a metallic ring that is inside a ceramic annular channel. A vertical ion accelerating electric field is generated between this anode and a virtual cathode made of an electron 26 Hall current generated upwards to the anode in a region where the electric and magnetic fields are mutually perpendicular. The electrons are strongly magnetized by this magnetic field and follow a circular unidirectional path determined by the ExB fields. Ions are accelerated towards this virtual cathode and are ejected from the thruster at high velocity generating a reaction thrusting force. Generally the used magnetic fields are perpendicular to the vertical annular ceramic walls of the thruster, generating also a strong erosion process of the protective thruster material in a relatively short time frame severely limiting the lifetime of the thruster. This occurs because the electrons are also strongly directed along magnetic field lines towards the walls, leading the ions to follow their path by electrostatic attraction. We are going to show the simulation results of a new magnetic field configuration known as Magnetic Shielding where the magnetic fields are parallel to the vertical walls and significantly increase the lifetime of our thrusters for long duration space missions. We will show for the first time how we have used ferromagnetic materials in order to control the magnetic field intensity of permanent magnets, which also allow for a decrease of the magnetic field to the desired intensities while helping at the same time to strongly making these fields much more uniform. In this way we can engineer the shape of the thruster’s magnetic fields in order to allow the correct and controlled development of Hall currents along uniform lines of perpendicular ExB spaces. We also show through plasma simulations that when a magnetic shielding configuration is used we are able to generate a circular Hall current just outside the exit channel of the annular thruster therefore avoiding most of the contact and interaction between the generated plasma and the ceramic walls increasing dramatically the thruster’s working lifetime and operational usefulness. Under the chemical and physical processes thattake place in cometary ices, the likely 28 molecules to be released into gas-phase upon ice sublimation are PH, HPO, CCP, and PH2. This work is especially relevant since ESA´s Rosetta Mission has detected the important amino acid glycine (C2H5NO2) and elemental phosphorus (P) with ROSINA´s double focusing mass spectrometer (DFMS) in the coma of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (Altwegg et al., Sci. Adv., 2016). The detection of simple P-bearing molecules in comets is of utmost importance as it will have implications on the nature of cometary parente molecules that are generally believed to be formed only from gas-grain surface chemistry. 29 AST I-4 Dynamical study of the Atira group of asteroids Ribeiro, A. O. (1), Roig, F. (2), De Prá, M. N. (2), Carvano, J. M. (2), De Souza, S. R (2). (1) Centro Universitário Geraldo Di Biase, (2) Observatório Nacional We study the dynamics of the group of Atira asteroids, characterized by aphelion distance Q < 0.983 au [1]. This group has a significant observational bias, and their number is expected to be an order of magnitude larger than is known today [2]. Due to their orbital configuration, these asteroids may represent a potential danger to the Earth. Here, we construct dynamical maps of the region between 0.2 and 0.98 au using a simple chaos indicator [3], the mean standard deviation in semimajor axis, and also analyse the behaviour of the real Atira orbits by means of the diffusion coefficient in semimajor axis. Our results indicate that Atira asteroids are located in the most unstable regions of the inner Solar system, and their stability is determined by close encounters and collisions with Mercury, Venus, and the Earth. A fraction of the known Atiras may represent a potential threat to the Earth over a few 105 yr of evolution. We found two islands of low-eccentricity stable orbits that might harbour a long-lasting sub-population of Atiras not yet observed. For each numerical simulation the nominal masses of all satellites were multiplied by a factor m f (generally ≥31 1). French and Showalter (2012) have explored the stability of the system using simulations based on the most recent observational data. They found that, across a wide range of mass assumptions, the system is unstable. They also adopted a mass factor in their studies. Cupid and Belinda are usually the first satellites to cross orbits, on a time scale of 103-107 years. In our work we performed numerical simulations using the orbital elements of the Portia family, Puck, Mab and Miranda are derived in Showalter and Lissauer (2006). In the previous studies, the authors made numerical simulations that envolved symplectic map. Here we used the Bulirsch-Stoer integrator, considering cases with and without the external satellites, integrations forward and backward in time, and taking into account the uncertainties in GM (GMmin, GM, GMmax) of the satellites. The results show that the system is unstable in all cases, in a scale of just a few hundreds of thousands of years, one order of magnitude lower than previously found. As expected, the cases with GMmax collided earlier than for lower masses. Now, we are exploring lower values of masses that could avoid the instability. That could be due to lower density values for such satellites. Here we use N-body simulations to explore a possible origins scenario for this still-unconfirmed planet. Using a modified version of the Mercury integrator we simulate the Sun's dynamics during its natal stellar cluster phase. Simulations were performed considering 200 and 1000 stars in the cluster and different cluster radii. At this time, the young Sun was orbited by a gaseous protoplanetary disk in which the ice giants were still forming via collisions between planetary cores. Indeed, Uranus and Neptune's peculiar obliquities suggest that both experienced giant collisions during the late phases of growth. To model the gaseous disk we use radial surface density profiles obtained from hydrodynamical simulations. Jupiter and Saturn were fully formed and near their current orbits. Beyond Saturn we included a population of proto-planetary embryos with masses of roughly five Earth masses. A population of planetesimals orbiting past ~30 AU represents the primordial Kuiper belt. Planetary embryos migrated in the type-I regime and planetesimals felt the effects of gas drag. Our results show that planetary embryos migrate towards Saturn and pile up in resonant chains. This phase of convergent migration promotes dynamical instabilities among migrating planetary embryos and the gas giants which leads to collisions and/or scattering events. Planetary embryos scattered outwards by the gasgiants may cross the Kuiper region and be deposited on distant orbits due to the gravitational perturbation from the passing stars and the galactic tidal effects. We compare the results of our simulations with constraints from the outer solar system and draw implications from this scenario for the origins of Planet-9. The current belt only contains 10 -3 Earth masses yet the asteroids' orbits are dynamically excited, with a large spread in eccentricity and inclination. The belt is also chemically segregated: the inner belt is dominated by dry S-types and the outer belt by hydrated C-types. Here we propose a new model in which the asteroid belt was always low-mass and was partially populated and sculpted by the giant planets on chaotic, resonant orbits. We first show that the compositional dichotomy of the asteroid belt is a simple consequence of Jupiter's growth in the gaseous protoplanetary disk. As Jupiter's core rapidly grew by accreting gas, orbits of nearby planetesimals were perturbed onto Jupiter-crossing trajectories. A significant fraction (~10%) of objects in the neighborhood exterior of Jupiter's orbit were implanted by gas drag into the outer parts of the asteroid belt as C-types. While the gas giants were likely in mean motion resonance at the end of the gaseous disk phase, we show that small perturbations may have driven them into a chaotic but stable state. After the dissipation of the gaseous disk, stochastic variations in the gas giants orbits caused resonances to chaotically jump across the main belt and excite the asteroids' orbits. Our results suggest that the early Solar System was chaotic and introduce a simple framework to understand the origins of the asteroid belt. Space Debris Working Group. MOC I-7 Mapping Stable Orbits Around a Triple Asteroid Antonio F. B. A. Prado (1) (1) National Institute for Space Research-INPE, São José dos Campos, Brazil 34 The study of asteroids is an important activity in space research. It is expected that those bodies preserve information about the formation of the Solar System. One of the most interesting asteroids to be visited is the 2001SN263 [1-3]. It is a multiple system, composed by three bodies. The bodies that compose the system have radius near 1.30 km, 0.39 km and 0.29 km. The largest satellite body, called Beta, orbits the central asteroid in an orbit with semi-major axis 16.63 km and eccentricity 0.015. The second satellite body is around the central body in an orbit with semi-major axis 3.80 km and eccentricity 0.016. The present paper studies the dynamics of this system, with the goal of searching for stable circular orbits around the main body. The idea of stability used here is very practical. The orbits are initially circular and then they are numerically integrated for a fixed time: 720 hours (30 days) when considering more perturbed orbital regions, and 7200 hours (300 days), when the spacecraft is located in a more stable region. Limits of oscillations are imposed to the radius vector of the orbit of the spacecraft, so it is required that the distance spacecraft-main body stays in a given range. Three different values are used for this limit: 2.0 and 4.0 km and 5% of the semi-major axis of the orbit. Three regions of the space are studied: below the orbit of the inner satellite, between the orbits of both smaller bodies and exterior to the orbit of the most distant body. This research complements previous studies shown in Prado [3], where those regions were also mapped measuring the perturbations received by a spacecraft, but not looking for specific trajectories and lifetimes of them. Defined the model the transition from local to global chaos is investigated. The phase space of such mapping show a large chaotic sea surrounding periodic islands and limited by a set of invariant spanning curve whose position of the first invariant spanning curve depends on the control parameters. The fixed points are obtained and the Lyapunov exponents are used to characterize the chaos. The dissipation was introduced on the system by the use of a control parameter delta, such that, for delta=1 the conservative system is recovered, hence we consider the case of delta<1. The dissipation destroys the conservative structure. We have shown that given an large initial condition the convergence to the chaotic attractor was proved analytically to be of exponential type. The formalism used is general and the procedure can be extend to many other different systems. Keywords: Standard mapping, local and global chaos, invariant spanning curve, Lyapunov esponents.
