1 - In different languages, active and passive voices refer to whether the subject of 
the sentence does the action or receives an action. It is a way to focus on one aspect 
of the sentence. That's why passive voice appears in the Scientific language, the focus 
is precisely indicated. Now read the following sentences and classify them into T, for 
true, and F, for false for the use of passive voice: 
( ) The teacher wrote a note on the board - is passive. 
( ) Some paper balls were thrown on the floor. 
( ) A note was written on the board -the board is the subject. 
( ) A note has been put on my desk - is passive voice. 
Check the right sequence: 
A) T - F - T - F. 
B) F - T - F - F. 
C) T - F - F - T. 
D) F - T - F - T. 
 
2 - Passive and active voice exists to focus, either on the subject, the one who 
accomplishes an action, either on the object who suffers an action. Analyze the 
statements and the relation between them: 
I- First-class passengers had been offered an extra souvenir by the company. 
BECAUSE 
II- Sometimes the subject of the action that is expressed by the main verb of the 
passive may not appear, although it exists. 
Check the right answer: 
A) I and II are correct sentences, but there is no relation between them. 
B) I is a false sentence and II is correct. 
C) I is a correct sentence and II isn't. 
D) I and II are correct sentences, II relates to I. 
 
3 - Modals ou verbos modais podem ser empregados na voz ativa e na voz passiva. 
Veja o par de exemplos: Mary has to be told about our change in plans - Mary has 
to tell about our change in plans. Nas asserções dadas, a primeira está na voz passiva 
enquanto a segunda, na voz ativa. Sobre a voz passiva e modal, classifique V para as 
sentenças verdadeiras e F para as falsas: 
( ) The paper should have been handed in last week. 
( ) The baker should have given a hand at the shop. 
( ) Because of the rain announcement the windows can't be opened today. 
 ( ) The radio announced heavy rain for today, but we can open the windows 
anyway.

4 - O uso da voz passiva pode apresentar uma certa dificuldade com os tempos 
verbais compostos, tais como Perfec e Continuous (Present e Past Perfect; Present e 
Past Continuous, Future). Sobre a voz passiva nestes tempos verbais, analise as 
sentenças a seguir: 
I- The fences are going to be painted next week. 
II- More than twenty people were hanging around at this place. 
III- Why don't you go and have ice cream at the corner?

A) As sentenças I e III estão corretas.

5 - Através da voz passiva, buscamos dar mais atenção ou destaque ao resultado de 
uma ação do que a algo ou alguém. Isso significa que o foco se encontra no objeto da 
oração e não no sujeito que pratica a ação. Nas alternativas a seguir, identifique 
aquela em que a voz passiva está incorretamente grafada: 
A) More than 5 thousand books have been sold until now. 
B) I, myself, was offered two tickets to watch Hamlet, by William Shakespeare. 
C) The story has been told by the teacher and not by the author. 
D) The people have been read a hundred books a day at the library. 
 
6 - Alguns verbos da língua inglesa apresentam significados diferentes conforme a 
estrutura gramatical em que se encontram. Um exemplo é o verbo "have" que, além 
de funcionar como verbo auxiliar na construção de tempos verbais, tais como o 
Present Perfect, também indica alternância no sentido. Acerca do exposto, associe 
os itens, utilizando o código a seguir: 
I- O sujeito da ação é outra pessoa. 
II- O sujeito da ação é o mesmo.

7 - A passive voice é utilizada para destacar mais a ação ou o seu resultado do que a 
pessoa que pratica a ação. Assim, é ressaltado o que acontece a alguém ou a algo. 
Com base no exposto, assinale a alternativa CORRETA que apresenta a voz passiva 
da seguinte oração: 
"Steve is cooking dinner". 
A) Steve was cooking dinner. 
B) Dinner was cooking by Steve. 
C) Dinner is cooked by Steve.

8 - Alguns contextos e situações são mais passíveis de apresentarem enunciados na 
voz passiva do que na voz ativa. Além do contexto, as intenções de quem fala também 
são determinantes. Nas alternativas a seguir, assinale a que contém um exemplo 
destes contextos: 
A) Grandma has been wondering for how long she might wait for the bus. 
B) Many schools will open their doors for the families for a family open day this weekend. 
C) Research has pointed out that eating vegetables is still the best way to avoid cancer.

9 - Para podermos expressar um conteúdo dando ênfase ao resultado de uma ação 
ou, em termos gramaticais, ao objeto e não ao sujeito, algumas condições 
gramaticais se impõem. Uma delas é que apenas verbos transitivos aceitam a voz 
passiva. Nas asserções apresentadas a seguir, assinale aquela que corresponde a esta 
regra: 
A) Mary was seen to go out with Johnny Seal, that guy from the second floor. 
B) I heard that the neighbor has passed away. 
C) -What happened to your knee? - I fell down in the garden. 
D) It has been raining a lot lately. 
 
10 - O uso da voz passiva é recorrente, tanto na língua portuguesa quanto na língua 
inglesa. Alguns contextos e situações são mais passíveis de voz passiva do que ativa. 
Além do contexto, as intenções de quem fala também são determinantes. Nas 
alternativas a seguir, assinale a que está na voz passiva: 
A) The weather is so nice, let's go out right now! 
B) Look at how beautifully the stars shine in the dark night! 
C) After a few months of research, a new method for stemcells analysis has been 
developed.
