Isso acontece com frequência porque o tamanho de lote é ditado por considerações econômicas e operacionais, enquanto o ponto de pedido pelas características da demanda durante o tempo de reposição que, em princípio, nada tem a ver com os custos considerados na determinação do tamanho do lote. Assim, neste caso, o estoque em mão fica sempre abaixo do ponto de pedido. O que, ocorre é que como o tempo de reposição é muito grande e o lote pequeno, para atender à demanda durante o tempo de reposição é necessário mais de um lote. Então, quando uma encomenda é feita a anterior (o mais de uma anterior) ainda não foi recebida. Para contornar esse problema de forma a se aplicar a qualquer situação, basta considerar como “nível de estoque” a “posição de estoque” que nada mais é do que o estoque em mão, mais as quantidades já encomendadas e ainda não recebidas, menos o que está fisicamente no estoque mas não está disponível para vender (ou consumir) seja porque está inutilizável, seja porque já está reservado para outra destinação, ou seja: Posição de estoque = estoque em mão+quantidade já encomendada ainda não recebida-(inutilizáveis+empenhados+vendidos não embarcados+pendências a atender) Usando a posição de estoque, a regra para disparar um pedido é: “faça um pedido apenas sempre que a posição de estoque atingir o ponto de pedido, ou ficar abaixo dele”.
