5UNIASSELVI NEAD GABARITO DAS AUTOATIVIDADES L Í N G U A I N G L E S A I III. É correto apenas o que se afirma em: a) (x) I e IV. b) ( ) II e III. c) ( ) III e IV. d) ( ) I, II e III. e) ( ) I, II e IV. 3 Como é formada a negativa e a interrogativa do verbo to be? R.: Para formar uma frase negativa que tenha o verbo to be basta acrescentar a partícula de negação not depois do verbo. Ex.: She is not 20 years old. Ex.: Is she 20 years old? 6 GABARITO DAS AUTOATIVIDADES UNIASSELVI NEAD L Í N G U A I N G L E S A I R.: O verbo there to be é o equivalente ao verbo haver no sentido de existir em português. Esse verbo, na realidade, é uma expressão formada pela palavra there (advérbio lá, aqui) com o verbo to be (is/are). 5 Como ocorre a concordância do verbo there to be? R.: A concordância desse verbo se faz com o substantivo, que segue a expressão there to be. Assim, se o substantivo estiver no singular, o verbo to be estará no singular também (is). E se o substantivo estiver no plural, o verbo to be também ficará no plural (are). Exemplos: There is a flower in the vase. There are ten flowers in the vase. 6 Qual é a forma do verbo to be no tempo do passado simples? R.: O verbo to be no tempo do passado simples possui duas formas: was e were. Usa-se was quando o sujeito for I, he, she, it. E usa-se were quando o sujeito for you, we, they. 7 Qual é a forma do verbo there to be no tempo do passado simples? R.: O verbo there to be no tempo do passado simples possui duas formas: there was e there were. Usa-se there was quando o substantivo que acompanha a expressão estiver no singular e usa-se there were quando o substantivo que acompanha a expressão estiver no plural. 8 Marque a alternativa em que o verbo to be esteja sendo usado corretamente: a) ( ) Marcos are tired. b) ( ) My parents is very old. c) (x) The student is very intelligent. d) ( ) Sue and I am cousins. Resposta comentada: A conjugação do verbo to be depende do sujeito; assim, analisando o sujeito saberemos a conjugação do verbo to be que deve ser usada. Então o verbo to be que acompanha He é is e não are. O sujeito da segunda frase é My parents (Meus pais), que pode ser substituído pelo pronome They (eles). Assim, o verbo to be que acompanha They é are e não is. O sujeito da terceira frase é The student (O aluno ou A aluna), que pode ser substituído pelos pronomes He ou She (pronome 7UNIASSELVI NEAD GABARITO DAS AUTOATIVIDADES L Í N G U A I N G L E S A I de 3ª pessoa do singular). O verbo to be que acompanha he ou she é is. O sujeito da última frase é Sue and I (Sue e eu), que pode ser substituído pelo pronome We (nós). O verbo to be que acompanha We é are e não am. Então, a resposta correta é a letra C. 9 Marque a alternativa em que o verbo there to be esteja sendo corretamente usado: a) ( ) There is children in the garden. b) (x) Are there many students in class? c) ( ) There is not three cars in the street. d) ( ) There are an orange in the basket. Resposta comentada: A concordância do verbo there to be acontece com o verbo to be. Se o susbtantivo que acompanha a expressão there to be estiver no singular, usa-se is. Se o substantivo que acompanha a expressão there to be estiver no plural, usa-se are. Assim, a resposta é a letra B. 10 Marque a alternativa que complete corretamente a frase: Mr. Jone and I ________ happy but the girls __________. a) (x) are – aren’t. b) ( ) is – aren’t. c) ( ) am – isn’t. d) ( ) are – am not. Assim, a resposta é a letra A. 8 GABARITO DAS AUTOATIVIDADES UNIASSELVI NEAD L Í N G U A I N G L E S A I 11 Complete as frases a seguir com o tempo adequado do verbo to be. I - Today _______________ Saturday. II - Yesterday _____________ Friday. a) ( ) is – were. b) ( ) are – is. c) ( ) were – is. d) (x) is – was. Resposta comentada: De acordo com as expressões de tempo (today e yesterday), saberemos se o verbo to be deve ser usado no presente ou no passado. Today significa hoje, então, a primeira frase deve ser completada com o verbo to be no presente. O verbo to be no presente que acompanha Today é is. Yesterday significa ontem, então, a segunda frase deve ser completada com o verbo to be no passado. O verbo to be no passado que acompanha Yesterday é was. Assim, a resposta correta é a letra d. 12 Marque a alternativa cuja frase esteja usando corretamente o verbo there to be no passado. a) ( ) There were a great show downtown last week. b) ( ) There was only twelve students here yesterday. c) ( ) There were a good film on TV last night. d) (x) There were many children in the kitchen. Resposta comentada: O verbo there to be no passado possui duas formas: There was para singular e There were para o plural. O substantivo da primeira frase é show (singular), então o verbo a ser usado é There was. O substantivo da segunda frase é students (plural), então o verbo a ser usado é There were. O substantivo da terceira frase é film (singular), então o verbo a ser usado é There was. E o substantivo da última frase é children (plural), então o verbo a ser usado é There were. Resposta correta letra d. TÓPICO 2 QUESTÃO ÚNICA: Classifique as sentenças a seguir em: A para Emphatic Pronouns ou B para Reflexive Pronouns. (A) She does herself the homework. Language teachers are often frustrated by that students do not automatically transfers the strategies they use when reading in their native language to reading in a language they are learning. Instead, they seem to think reading means starting at the beginning and going word by word, stopping to look up 13UNIASSELVI NEAD GABARITO DAS AUTOATIVIDADES L Í N G U A I N G L E S A I every unknown vocabulary item, until they reach the end. When they do this, students are relying exclusively on their linguistic knowledge, a bottom-up strategy. One of the most important functions of language teachers, then, is to help students move past this idea and use top-down strategies as they do in their native language. Effective teachers show students how they can adjust their reading behavior to deal with a variety of situations, types of input, and reading purposes. They help students develop a set of reading strategies and match appropriate strategies to each reading situation. Some of these strategies are previewing, predicting, skimming, scanning, and paraphrasing texts. They include reviewing titles, section headings, and photo captions to get a sense of the structure and content of a reading selection; using knowledge of the subject matter to make predictions about content and vocabulary and check comprehension; using knowledge of the text type and the author to make predictions about writing style, vocabulary, and content; making a quick survey of the text to get the main idea, confirm or question predictions; guessing prior knowledge of the subject and the ideas in the text as clues to the meaning of unknown words; stopping at the end of a section to check comprehension by restating the information and ideas inthe text. When language learners use reading strategies, they find that can control the reading experience, and they gain confidence in their ability to read the language. FONTE: Adaptado de <http://www.ncirc.org>. Acesso em: 29 jul. 2014. Taking into account the reading strategies mentioned in the text, consider the following statements. I - Skimming means to glance at the text to find the desired information. II - Paraphrasing refers to the reproduction of the content of given text. R.: Os verbos na 3ª pessoa do singular (he, she, it) recebem as terminações: S, ES ou IES; dependendo do verbo. R.: Nas formas negativa e interrogativa usa-se o verbo auxiliar to do (do / does). Usa-se do quando o sujeito for: I, You, We ou They e usa-se does quando o sujeito for: He, She ou It. Exemplo: He does not go to school on Saturdays (Ele não vai para a escola aos sábados). Do you play the piano? Often these things become issues or questions for people to answer or decisions for them to make. Issues become controversial when people disagree or even argue about them. People are often divided on controversial issues. Some people support one side of an argument. Other people oppose this side and support another side. Sometimes we have to decide whether we are for or against such issues because they can affect and influence our daily lives and the country and the world that we live in. Sometimes we have to reach a compromise. A compromise is a solution to an issue that both sides can agree upon. One such controversial issue is about using animals in laboratory experiments. Before you read the article, think about these questions: • What kinds of animals are usually used in laboratory experiments? • What kinds of things are scientists trying to find out? • Why do they use animals instead of using humans in the experiments? Every year about seventeen million animals are used in medical laboratory experiments. In many countries, people are questioning whether this is morally right or wrong. They are asking the question: Do we have the right to use animals in research this way? The case for using animals in medical research: The use of animals in medical research has many practical benefits. Animal research has enabled researchers to develop cures and treatments for many diseases. This includes treatments and medicines for heart disease, AIDS, cancer, hypertension, and depression. It would not have been possible to develop vaccines for smallpox and polio without using animals for research. Every drug anyone takes today was first tested on animals. This way we can be sure it is safe and there are no harmful side effects. Which is more important: the life of a mouse or the life of a human? 48 GABARITO DAS AUTOATIVIDADES UNIASSELVI NEAD L Í N G U A I N G L E S A I Another argument for using animals in laboratory experiments is that it can help to get rid of unwanted animals. Last year in the USA five million animals were killed in animal shelters because nobody wanted to taker them as pets. The case against using animals in medical research: Using animals in laboratory experiments and research is cruel and unnecessary. Animals suffer a lot in these experiments. They are forced to live in small cages, and sometimes do not have enough room to move. The experiments often are painful, uncomfortable experiences for the animals. The animals are often afraid or forced to take dangerous drugs and medicine. They can even involve killing the animals. Much of the research done on animals could be done in other ways. Researchers could use cell samples or virtual computer simulations to do experiments instead of using animals. FONTE: Disponível em: <http://stickyball.net/adult.html?id=272>.
