POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES
SUBJECT PRONOUN POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVE
I have a shirt.
You have a book.
He has a pillow.
She has a dog.
It has a bone.
We have a bird.
You have a house.
They have a car.
The possessive adjective needs to agree with the possessor and not with the thing that is possessed.
Examples:
My car is very old. Her boyfriend is very friendly. Our dog is black.
Like all adjectives in English, they are always located directly in front of the noun they refer to.
(Possessive Adjective + Noun)
We do not include an S to the adjective when the noun is plural like in many other languages.

Examples:
Our cars are expensive. (Correct) Ours cars are expensive. (Incorrect)
However, the verb that is used needs to be in agreement with the noun - if the noun is singular then
the verb is singular; if the noun is plural then the verb is plural.
Examples:
My pen is black. (Singular) My pens are black. (Plural)
Our child is intelligent. (Singular) Our children are intelligent. (Plural)
My shirt is green.
Your book is new.
His pillow is soft.
Her dog is small.
Its bone is old.
Our bird is noisy.
Your house is big.
Their car is slow.
YOUR = Possessive adjective
-You need to bring your book.
YOU’RE = You are (Contraction)
-You’re an excellent student.
ITS = Possessive adjective
-The dog played with its ball.
IT’S = It is (Contraction)
-It’s very hot right now.

COLORS (American English) / COLOURS (British English)
IMPORTANT:
What is the difference between Gray and Grey?
The same as with the difference between color and colour, it depends on the country.
The word Gray is used in the United States.
The word Grey is used in the rest of the English-speaking countries (England, Australia, NZ etc.)
Word order with colours
There are three ways that you can use a colour in a sentence to describe something:
1. To Be + Colour. e.g. My car is blue.
2. Colour + Noun. e.g. The blue car is mine.

Can is a modal verb.
Can is used to express ability or to say that something is possible.
Can is the same for all subjects. We don’t add an ‘S’ in the third person (like other verbs)
Affirmative:
The verb that comes after Can is in the infinitive without to:
-I can speak Spanish. (= it is possible for me to speak Spanish = I have the ability to speak Spanish)
 -Lauren can swim well.
-They can see their neighbour in the yard .
 -We can play the piano.
Negative
To form the negative we add “not” after can to form one word: cannot.
We can also contract the negative to form can’t.

See the use: Can’t = Cannot
 -I cannot play the guitar.
-She cannot speak French very well.
 -He can’t drive a car.
-You can’t go to the cinema tonight.
Interrogative
To form questions we change the position of the subject and
the auxiliary verb.
The main verb is still in the infinitive without to.
-Can I go to the party, please?
 -Can you speak French?
-What can we do on Monday?
-Where can I buy a new bike?

Subjects are what the sentence is about. They refer to a person or a thing.
Objects are what is affected by the action of the subject.
Examples:
I like orange juice. ( I is the subject ).
I read books. (Books is the object as it is receiving the action).
I read them. (Them is the object pronoun substitutes the noun:books).
Object pronouns are used instead of nouns,
usually because we already know what the
object is. It makes the sentence easier to read
and understand and avoids repetition. We
normally use object pronouns after a verb or a
preposition.
The Object Pronoun - it
Be careful when using ‘it’ as an object pronoun because it is only in the correct context that it has
meaning. It needs to have already been mentioned or obvious to the listener what you are referring
to.
Examples: You are sitting on it! (The listener probably knows the remote control is on the sofa, for example).
A: Where is the remote control?
 B:You are sitting on it!
(B =The listener, probably knows the remote control is on the sofa, so he/she uses the object pronoun: it).
