A vida nos convoca, chama a admirá-la. Neste livro, vemos a flo-
resta viva, uma representação da força da natureza registrada 
por meio de imagens que revelam, dentre tantas outras, as be-
lezas naturais da Bahia. 
Nesta publicação, compartilhamos imagens que alimentam 
nosso cotidiano. Elas são belas, curiosas, instigantes. Também 
acalmam, trazem paz e esperança. Cuidar da beleza natural 
desta terra é um compromisso que temos com o futuro, com a 
sociedade, com o sagrado do mundo.
A natureza nos oferta não só uma composição estética bela, 
mas, também, sua capacidade de renovar. Como nossos cor-
pos, que se renovam em ciclos diários de produzir e descansar, 
dormir e acordar, inspirar e, um pouco depois, soltar o ar nova-
mente. É assim que ela produz os recursos dos quais tanto pre-
cisamos para nos manter vivos e vislumbrar futuros.

In this book, we see the living forest, a 
representation of the strength of nature 
recorded through images that reveal, 
among many others, the natural beauty 
of Bahia. 
In this publication, we share images that 
feed our daily lives. They are beautiful, 
curious, thought-provoking. They also 
calm, bring peace and hope. Taking care 
of the natural beauty of this land is a 
commitment we have with the future, with 
society, with the sacredness of the world.
Nature offers us not only a beautiful 
aesthetic composition, but also its 
capacity to renew. Like our bodies, 
which renew themselves in daily cycles 
of producing and resting, sleeping and 
waking up, inhaling and, a little later, 
exhaling again. That’s how it produces the 
resources we so desperately need to stay 
alive and envision futures.

São ciclos que a gente não percebe porque somos parte e, ao 
mesmo tempo, resultado deles. É a própria vida acontecendo. É 
a condição de existir. Se esses ciclos são respeitados, a floresta 
vive. E, com ela, a humanidade e todos os outros seres.
Não podemos entrar em risco, ao perder a capacidade de atuar 
para o equilíbrio dinâmico desses fluxos. Nos tempos recentes, 
os recursos estão sendo retirados da natureza de forma muito 
rápida, sem o espaço do descanso. Por isso, nosso empenho e 
cuidado ao produzir florestas, manejando-as sustentavelmente 
para que o ciclo de renovação aconteça.
Na Bracell, produzimos e vivemos as florestas. Nossa interação 
com elas envolve respeito, descobertas e aprendizados com 
seus processos de polinização, regulação do clima, estoque de 
CO2, manutenção do ciclo da água e muitos outros. Observando 
todos estes aspectos da biodiversidade em nossas áreas e, em 
especial, nos mais de 60.000 hectares de vegetação preservada 
no Litoral Norte e Agreste do estado, compreendemos melhor 
como é possível promover o equilíbrio dinâmico da natureza e a 
sustentabilidade da vida.
Inspirados por tudo que a natureza nos oferece, investimos em 
pesquisas de ponta para encontrar soluções sustentáveis e con-
tinuar fornecendo matéria-prima de produtos essenciais, que 
melhoram a vida de bilhões de pessoas.
Nosso conhecimento é compartilhado com órgãos ambien-
tais, universidades e instituições de interesse comum. Todas as 
iniciativas reforçam o nosso propósito de operar de modo que 
tudo o que fazemos seja bom para a Comunidade, País, Clima e 
Cliente, pois só assim será bom para a Bracell. 
Cuidar dessa beleza é um compromisso que temos com o futu-
ro. Essa publicação é um convite a olhar para as florestas. Quan-
to mais olhares encantados, maior será o cuidado. 
These are cycles that we do not 
understand because we are part and, 
at the same time, the result of them. It’s 
life itself happening. It is the condition of 
existing. If these cycles are respected, the 
forest lives. And, with it, humanity and all 
other beings.
We cannot put ourselves at risk by losing 
the capacity to act for the dynamic 
balance of these flows. In recent times, 
resources are being taken out of nature 
very quickly without the space to rest. 
Therefore, our commitment and care 
in producing forests, managing them 
sustainably so that the renewal cycle can 
take place.
At Bracell, we produce and live forests. Our 
interaction with them involves respect, 
discoveries and learning from their 
pollination processes, climate regulation, 
CO2 storage, maintenance of the water 
cycle and many others. Observing all these 
aspects of biodiversity in our areas and, 
in particular, in the more than 60,000 
hectares of preserved vegetation on the 
North Coast and Agreste of the state, we 
better understand how it is possible to 
promote the dynamic balance of nature 
and the sustainability of life.
Inspired by all that nature has to offer, 
we invest in cutting-edge research to 
find sustainable solutions and continue 
to supply essential raw materials that 
improve the lives of billions of people.
Our knowledge is shared with 
environmental agencies, universities

mana. É a partir de nossa riqueza natural conservada que tere-
mos terras férteis, água potável e ar mais puro.
Este olhar cuidadoso deve estar no centro de qualquer ação es-
tratégica pública, privada ou da sociedade civil. Se durante dé-
cadas utilizamos o meio ambiente para fazer negócios, é che-
gado o momento de retribuir toda sua generosidade traduzida 
em forma de recursos naturais.
O livro Floresta sempre Viva, da Bracell, é uma demonstração 
sobre como atuar dentro do mais moderno conceito da bioeco-

The book “Floresta sempre viva”, by Bracell, 
is a demonstration of how to act within 
the most modern concept of bioeconomy. 
Here, it is clear how the cultivated tree 
sector, in addition to producing essential 
goods for society, generating jobs and 
income, and taking development to more 
than 1,000 municipalities across Brazil, 
invests heavily in environmental care and

Florestas são ecossistemas vivos, dinâmicos, em mutação cons-
tante. 
Vistas de longe as florestas parecem homogêneas, iguais, mas 
não são. À medida que amadurecem, crescem junto com elas 
diversas espécies de animais e plantas, trazendo o colorido re-
velador do equilíbrio dinâmico necessário para a manutenção 
da vida. 
A humanidade é parte da biodiversidade e a nossa existência 
seria impossível sem a existência dos demais seres vivos. Todas 
as nossas atividades estão intrinsecamente ligadas aos fluxos e 
às trocas que a natureza oferece. 
Forests are living, dynamic, constantly 
changing ecosystems. 
Seen from a distance, the forests look 
homogeneous, the same, but they are 
not. As they mature, several species of 
animals and plants grow with them, 
bringing the color that reveals the 
dynamic balance necessary for the 
maintenance of life. 
Humanity is part of biodiversity and our 
existence would be impossible without 
the existence of other living beings. All 
our activities are intrinsically linked to 
the flows and exchanges that nature 
offers.

A Palmeira-jussara é classificada como 
vulnerável segundo a Lista de Espécies 
Brasileiras Ameaçadas de Extinção. O 
palmito, extraído dela, é altamente uti-
lizado na cultura do extrativismo. Seus 
frutos apresentam forte ligação com a 
alimentação de aves e primatas, incluin-
do o Guigó-de-coimbra-filho (Callicebus 
coimbrai), espécie ameaçada de extin-
ção presente em diversas áreas de Mata 
Atlântica conservadas pela Bracell.
Jussara palm is classified as vulnerable according 
to the List of Brazilian Species Threatened with 
Extinction. The heart of palm, extracted from the 
species, is highly used in extractivism. Its fruits 
are heavily associated with the eating habits of 
birds and primates, including the Coimbra Filho’s 
titi (Callicebus coimbrai), an endangered species 
present in several areas of the Atlantic Forest 
conserved by Bracell.”

Vida faz barulho. O silêncio não é o estado natural da floresta. O 
zumbido das abelhas, marimbondos e pequenas aves que carre-
gam pólen e sementes pra lá e pra cá, assegura que as plantas se 
reproduzam e isso tem impacto direto na alimentação humana. 
Se essa dispersão de sementes deixa de acontecer com regulari-
dade, a agricultura é afetada. 
As cobras, sapos e lagartos são considerados perigosos e para muita 
gente não fariam falta. Costumam causar repulsa. Entretanto, ao se 
alimentarem de mosquitos e ratos, fazem o controle natural de do-
enças. Do veneno da jararaca, vem a substância utilizada para a pro-
dução dos remédios que controlam a pressão arterial em humanos. 
Já as florestas são tratadas como empecilho para a produção e 
mistificadas como locais obscuros, onde coisas ruins podem acon-
tecer. Na verdade, o bem-estar humano está ligado à presença de 
belezas naturais e à necessidade de produtos de base.
Life makes noise. Silence is not the natural state 
of the forest. In the hum of bees, wasps and small 
birds that carry pollen and seeds to and fro, there 
is the security for plants to reproduce and this has 
a direct impact on human food. If this pollination 
fails to happen regularly, agriculture is affected.
Lack of knowledge about biodiversity leads to 
direct damage to plants and animals. Snakes, 
toads, frogs and tree frogs were for many years 
demonized by legends and beliefs. However, 
disease control has a strong relationship with 
feeding these animals. They are animals with 
great pharmacological potential. 
Forests, on the other hand, are treated as an 
impediment to production and mystified as 
obscure places, where bad things can happen. In 
fact, human well-being is linked to the presence of 
natural beauty and the need for basic products.

Conhecer os animais e seus hábitos permite realizar o manejo 
das florestas, respeitando a presença e as necessidades desses 
seres vivos. É uma troca intensa e produtiva. 
Os ciclos de plantio e colheita das árvores de eucalipto, assim 
como a extração da celulose, são realizados respeitando o meio 
ambiente, que, ao final, contribui para o desenvolvimento de 
produtos essenciais e presentes na vida de bilhões de pessoas 
em todo o mundo.
Identificar, monitorar e potencializar a diversidade de animais, 
plantas, rios e nascentes presentes em seus biomas de atuação 
permitem à Bracell manejar suas florestas de forma sensível, 
respeitando a biodiversidade dos ecossistemas em que estão 
inseridas. 
O plantio de florestas é uma contribuição para o mundo funcio-
nar, beneficiando, mantendo e gerando vidas. 
Knowing the animals and their habits makes it possible to manage the forests, 
respecting the presence and needs of these living beings. It’s an intense and 
productive exchange. 
The planting and harvesting cycles of eucalyptus trees, as well as the extraction 
of cellulose, are activities carried out respecting the environment, which, in the 
end, contribute to the development of essential products that are present in the 
routine of billions of people around the world.
Identifying, monitoring and enhancing the diversity of animals, plants, rivers 
and springs present in its biomes allows Bracell to manage its forests in a 
sensitive way, respecting the biodiversity of the ecosystems in which they are

Bracell. Nessas áreas, encontramos a presença de biomas 
de Mata Atlântica, Caatinga e enclaves de Cerrado.
More than 60,000 hectares destined to the maintenance, 
restoration and enrichment of native vegetation, on the North 
Coast and Agreste of Bahia, are protected by Bracell. In these

O rio Farje faz parte da segunda bacia hidrográfica 
mais antiga em monitoramento no Brasil, com 25 anos de 
acompanhamento. Em parceria com o Instituto de Pesquisas 
e Estudos Florestais (Ipef), a Bracell tem um programa de 
monitoramento deste rio, com impacto zero da atividade de 
eucalipto nessa microbacia.
The Farje River is the second oldest hydrographic basin under 
monitoring in Brazil, with 25 years of monitoring. In partnership with 
the Institute for Forestry Research and Studies (Ipef), Bracell has a 
program to monitor the Farje River, with results such as the zero impact 
of eucalyptus activityin this microbasin.

É a maior e mais colorida dentre as cinco espécies de urubus 
presentes no Brasil. Possui uma envergadura que varia de 
170 a 198 cm e peso que oscila de 3 a 5 kg, medindo cerca de 
85 cm de altura. Encontra-se na lista de espécies ameaçadas 
dos estados de São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo e Rio 
Grande do Sul.
The king vulture (Sarcoramphus papa) is the largest and most colorful 
among the 5 species of vultures present in Brazil. It has a wingspan that 
varies from 170 to 198 cm and a weight that varies from 3 to 5 kg, measu-
ring about 85 cm in length. It is on the list of endangered species in the 
states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Rio Grande do Sul.

sustainable management plan, which contributes to income generation for

A Bracell possui termo de 
compromisso com a Secretaria do Meio 
Ambiente (Sema) e o Instituto do Meio 
Ambiente e Recursos Hídricos (Inema) 
que, em conjunto com o Programa 
Bahia Sem Fogo (BSF), previne e reduz 
incêndios florestais em áreas públicas 
e particulares, assim como promove 
ações de reconhecimento de boas 
práticas de combate a incêndios e 
preservação ambiental.
Bracell has a term of commitment with the 
Department of the Environment (Sema) and 
the Institute for the Environment and Water 
Resources (Inema), which, together with the Bahia 
Sem Fogo Program (BSF), prevents and reduces 
forest fires in areas public and private, as well as 
promoting actions to recognize good practices in 
firefighting and environmental preservation.

Certificada como Área de Soltura de Animais Silvestres 
(Asas) pelo Instituto do Meio Ambiente e Recursos Hídricos 
(Inema), a RPPN Lontra recebe cerca de um evento de soltura 
de animais silvestres ao mês. Somente em 2020, mais de 140 
animais foram reintegrados à via natural na reserva.
Certified as a Wild Animal Release Area (Asas) by the Environment 
and Water Resources Institute (Inema), RPPN Lontra hosts about one 
wild animal release event per month. In 2020 alone, more than 140 
animals were reinserted in the natural way in the Reserve.

Mutirões de recuperação de matas ciliares e nascentes já en-
volvem mais de 1.600 moradores das comunidades. Como re-
sultado deste trabalho, foi iniciada a recuperação de cerca de 
12 nascentes e matas ciliares. Gincanas ecológicas, oficinas de 
reciclagem, oficinas de sabão e instalação de parques constru-
ídos com madeira de eucalipto mostram como os participan-
tes incorporam conceitos de proteção e consciência ambiental 
ao seu estilo de vida. 
Efforts to recover riparian forests and 
springs already involve more than 1600 
community residents. As a result of this 
work, the recovery of about 12 springs and 
riparian forests was started. Ecological 
scavenger hunts, recycling workshops, 
soap workshops and the installation of 
parks built with eucalyptus wood show 
how participants incorporate concepts of 
protection and environmental awareness 
into their lifestyle.

O time de Segurança Patrimonial da empresa ajuda a redu-
zir efetivamente os furtos de madeira e a ação de caçadores. 
Além disso, resgatam animais silvestres em situação de risco 
ao realizar a vigilância das operações florestais e das áreas de 
vegetação nativa. Com moradores e produtores rurais, eles 
compõem a rede de Amigos da Floresta para prevenir os focos 
de incêndio e atuar de modo mais assertivo quando ele ocorre, 
restringindo significativamente os danos à fauna e à flora.
Aprender como entrelaçar a proteção ambiental nos diversos 
espaços e práticas cotidianas é um compromisso. Nutrir uma 
rede de parcerias voltadas ao bem comum mostra que estar 
juntos e integrados é a melhor forma de cuidar do presente e 
preparar o futuro.
The company’s Property Security team helps to significantly reduce theft of 
wood and the action of hunters. In addition, it usually finds and rescues wild 
animals at risk when carrying out surveillance of forest operations and areas 
of native vegetation. With residents and rural producers, they make up the 
Friends of the Forest network to prevent fire outbreaks and act more assertively 
when it occurs, significantly restricting damage to fauna and flora.
Learning how to intertwine environmental protection in different spaces and 
everyday practices is a commitment. Nurturing a network of partnerships 
aimed at the common good shows that being together and integrated is the 
best way to see futures.
