READING 1. Read the texts and fi ll them in with the sentences below. (Total: 2 points – 0.5 each correct answer) THE TRAVELER’S OPINION In our last edition, we asked you, “Which is the best: planning your own trip or hiring a travel agent?” In my opinion, hiring a travel agent is simple, convenient and timesaving. What else could someone want? It may be time-consuming, as you have to do all the work. I really don’t get it why someone would pay someone else to do something you can easily do. I guess the only problem is that package tours may be a little too standardized. I’ve always been afraid of planning my own trips, but last vacation I gave it a go and it was great! I spent two weeks in Spain and Portugal. I decided when and where I wanted to go. And, the good thing about doing that is that you always have the possibility of changing plans during the trip if you want to. _________________________________ at is, search and buy airline tickets, and book hotels. I guess this can also be fun if you do it with someone else. All in all, I think it’s great to plan your dream trip and see it come true. Alice Walker, Chicago b. If you want my honest opinion, vacation time is vacation time! at’s what I did for my last trip to Brazil and Argentina. I told the travel agent the destinations and he did it all for me. I think hiring a travel agent is always the best option! You just tell the professional what you want and your budget and he does the magic. It’s fast, simple and you know what you’ll get. I think the only thing you have to be careful with is the choice of the travel agent. You should always hire well-known professionals. _______________________________ Jess Covey, New York c. As I see it, money spent with a travel agent is an investment. ey can help you with the whole process and if you travel during low season you can save a lot of money. at’s what my wife and I did last vacation when we went to Scandinavia. ___________________________ So you may visit tourist places only. But, it’s safe and with a little planning you can always fi nd interesting things. To sum up, I believe hiring a travel agent gives you the time and possibility of enjoying your vacation from the beginning to the end. Nolan Prizker, Portland d. ___________________________________ e trip of your dreams is just a few clicks away. It’s fast, easy, and practical. at’s what I did for my last trip to the Caribbean. I bought tickets and booked a room in a wonderful resort on the Bahamas. Maybe the only drawback is that if you have problems with reservations and fl ights, you don’t have anyone to count on but yourself to solve the problem. But, I wonder if a travel agent can actually help you if you’re in a foreign country with no access to a phone or internet. So, for me, people should use the money they’d spend with a travel agent on the trip itself. Pablo Castro, Denver a. CNA_PROGRESSION1_FINAL_TESTB.indd 2 01/07/15 10:37 FINAL TEST - TYPE B | 3 2.
