In Memory of Henry C. Vogel
Henry C. Vogel (1919�2012) enjoyed a fruitful career
as a Senior Staff Engineer at Davy McKee Corporation,
a Manager of the Process Engineering Department at
GAF, and an Assistant Director of the Task Force for
Modernization at Merck & Co., Inc.
Upon graduating MIT in 1941, Vogel enlisted and
served in the India-Burma Theater WWII. Upon his
return, Vogel joined Merck & Co., Inc. He worked on the
early penicillin process at Merck when the drug was first
made commercially available. In 1952, Vogel graduated
with an MS from Columbia University and received a
patent from the USPTO for his process of recovering
osmium.
Vogel was also active in professional organizations,
co-chairing the New Jersey Chapter of the American
Institute of Chemical Engineers and the New Jersey
Lecture Series on Fermentation.
