PREFACE TO THE ENGLISH EDITION 
T H E compi la t ion o f a manual o n solubility presents considerable 
difficulties in v iew o f the scattered nature o f the experimental data 
and the ever increasing number o f published results. 
I n view o f the great need for systematic data o n solubilities, the 
task o f compi l ing such a manual lies n o t so m u c h in including all 
data relevant to solut ions and solubilities, but in making a selection 
o f the mos t valuable and proved experimental data. This informa-
t ion should then be presented in as convenient and systematic a form 
as possible , and in our op in ion this M a n u a l will be o f value to 
research workers, teaching establishments and industry. 
Addi t ional data compi led after the Russ ian work was published 
has been included at the end o f V o l u m e 1, part 2. 
The publ icat ion o f this work by Pergamon Press helps to further 
scientific contact between our t w o countries.
