A joke can be a short story with a setup and a punchline, but there are many other kinds of them. Let’s see some: 
Anecdotes: a story that involves a real or fictional character.
The classic ones start with a situation, for example: “A man walks into a bar…”; “Three people found a magic lamp in the desert”, but it can also be a real story, like people tell in talk shows.

Anedotas: uma história que envolve um personagem real ou fictício.
Os clássicos começam com uma situação, por exemplo: “Um homem entra num bar…”; “Três pessoas encontraram uma lâmpada mágica no deserto”, mas também pode ser uma história real, como as pessoas contam em talk shows.

Puns: a play on words that exploits the multiple meanings or similar sounds of a word for humorous effect. Example:
“Why did the bicycle fall over?”
“Because it was two-tired.”*

Dad jokes: puns, wordplay, or simple jokes with a cheesy nature. They often involve predictable or corny punchlines and are known for being light-hearted and easygoing. (Like President Obama’s)

Arthur Conan Doyle, the famous creator of Sherlock Holmes, once went to Paris. He hired a cab at the railway station to go to the hotel.
“What hotel would you like to go to, Mr. Conan Doyle?”, asked the cabman.
The writer was greatly surprised. “How do you know my name?,” he asked.
“Well, it’s simple,” the cabman said. “The other day, I read in the newspapers that you would probably visit Paris. Then I noticed that your suit was made of good English tweed.

O escritor ficou muito surpreso. “Como você sabe meu nome?”, ele perguntou.
“Bem, é simples”, disse o cocheiro. “Outro dia li nos jornais que você provavelmente visitaria Paris. Então notei que seu terno era feito de um bom tweed inglês.
