Property:
ASD Application
Select the setting for Application Specific Detection, in which the detector takes into account the likely smoke and heat 
profiles to detect a fire in its environment, and discriminate against false alarms. Your choice should best reflect the 
type of area/space being protected.
Notes
1) The detector can not provide ASD if the detector's thermal element is disabled.
2) Not all detectors are capable of supporting all of the following ASD settings.
Computer Room
Use when protecting high-cost clean machinery in a very controlled operating environment: clean, temperature closely 
regulated, no smoking, high air velocity.
Data Center
Controlled environment containing data processing, cable and or Telco equipment, high air velocity, often contains sub-
floors.
Data Center + CO
Controlled environment containing data processing, cable and or Telco equipment, high air velocity, often contains sub-
floors.
Disable
ASD discrimination is not used. The detector operates as a standard photo/thermal detector. Disable will cause the 
detector to be set its standard chamber sensitivity of 3.00%/ft.
Dormitory
Environment has airborne dust, temperature changes, living quarters, cooking fumes, smoking.
Duct
Open air or duct housing: dirty, dusty, humid, wide temperature swings, high air velocity.
EMI Noise
Are with electrical interface, RF and our specialized equipment generating electrical signal. Other environmental 
conditions are normal.
Health Care
Use in an area of higher level value/risk, which is relatively clean and may contain electronic equipment.
Hospital
Controlled clean environment. High level risk. Some exposure RF generating equipment. Exposure to cleaning solvents.
Hostile Environment (Robust)
Area is dirty, dusty, humid, contains operating equipment, sees wide temperature swings, may present radio-frequency 
interference (RFI) from RF-based or RF-noisy equipment (Robust - which is applied only to FDOT421 devices - Offers 
improved resistance to false alarms in areas where misleading sources, such as cigarette smoke or exhaust fumes, may 
cause a nuisance alarm).
Hostile + CO
Adds CO sensor to robust smoke detection for avoiding nuisance alarms from deceptive phenomena. Dirty, dusty, 
humid, operating equipment, RF present, wide temperature swings.
Hotel
Life safety, some temperature swings, steam, smoking and cooking possible.
Hotel + CO
Provides CO sensor supporting nuisance alarm avoidance, some temperature swings, steam, smoking and cooking 
possible.
Incipient (Sensitive)
Very controlled environment, clean, temperature closely regulated. Provides early warning detection alarm and Very

Early Warning Pre-Alarm detection thresholds. (Sensitive - which is applied only to FDOT421 devices - Suitable for 
areas where few misleading sources of false alarm are present, and is appropriate where priority is given to detecting 
open fires as soon as possible (e.g. typically a clean application with controlled environmental conditions))
Ion equivalent
Used as an alternative to Ionization detector. Sensitive to flaming fires and small fire signature particles. Can be used 
for cross zoning suppression requirements.
Lobby
Use for a relatively clean area with temperature changes, cellular phones (RFI potential), smoking.
Manufacturing
Semi-controlled environment can include soldering, welding, airborne contaminants including chemical vapor exposure.
Office (Standard)
Use for a reasonably clean, climate-controlled atmosphere (Standard - which is applied only to FDOT421 devices -
Suitable for normal office, hotel lobby type applications and is the default setting).
Open Environment
Large open areas, atriums, arenas, stadiums. Temperature swings, deceptive phenomena from fumes possible.
Parking Garage
Airborne dust, car and diesel fumes, temperature swings.
Precious Storage
Use in areas with sensitive materials or stored equipment, in a clean dust-free environment, that require the earliest 
warning possible.
Power Generation
Controlled environment, minor or no temperature swing, RF, welding, electrical arcing present. Some airborne 
(deceptive phenomena) contaminant present.
School
Life safety, some temperature swings and airborne contaminants.
Telecommunication
Very controlled environment, clean, temperature closely regulated, high value clean signal processing equipment 
operating and high air velocity conditions. Often has high ceilings. Meets the detection requirements of NFPA 76 
Standard for the Protection of Telecommunication Equipment by providing a Very Early Warning Fire Detection Pre-
Alarm to prevent downtimeand maintain critical business continuity.Utility Room Transformer or utility room. Normal to 
somewhat dirty environment, heat from running equipment.
Utility Room
Use for transformer room, normal to somewhat dirty environment, heat from running equipment.
Warehouse
Light manufacturing / warehouse environment. Airborne dust, equipment, fork truck, light to medium dock area 
exhaust fumes.
