Release authorized by: Lars Frisk Global Product Manager Hitachi Energy, Grid Automation RELEASE OF RELION 670, 650 AND SAM600-IO SERIES 1MRG043109 Page 2/7 We are pleased to announce an update of: Relion 670 series version 2.2, our flagship protection and control IEDs Relion 650 series version 2.2, our off-the-shelf IED solution SAM600-IO series version 2.2, our switchgear control unit for Digital Substation For 670 series, the update addresses customized and pre-configured IEDs covering all application areas within the products REB/REC/RED/REG/REL/RER/RES and RET670. Relion 670 series covers a complete set of applications from busbar protection, bay control, line protection, generator protection, railway application and phasor monitoring to transformer protection. For 650 series, the updates are covering all application areas within the products REB/REC/RED/REL/REQ and RET650. Relion 650 series covers the following applications: high-impedance busbar protection, bay control, line protection and control, transformer protection and control and circuit breaker protection. The introduction of version 2.2 of 670, 650 and SAM600-IO series, expand the application areas especially for digital substations, enhancing the system functionality and flexibility. New features, benefits, and improvements The following new features and their benefits, as well as the improvements on the existing functionality, are introduced in this update: Applications related – new functionality (see each entry for the details about the affected product series): In REB670, new 4-zone 12-bay 3-ph busbar protection is available, including: o Settable slope of differential protection o Sampled value (SV) based measurements from all 12 bays o Up to 8 bays providing measurements by conventional CTs o Possibility to mix conventional CTs and SV measurements o Support of conditional blocking when used with IEC 61850-9-2LE. Eventual failure of one MU blocks affected zone, while unaffected zones stay in service. Synchrophasor data streaming and reporting according to IEC/IEEE 60255-118 (C37.118) and IEEE1344 has been enabled in REB670, for up to 32 synchrophasors. The maximum PMU data streaming reporting rate has been increased in several product types that support synchrophasor data streaming and reporting according to IEC/IEEE 60255-118 (C37.118) and IEEE1344 (REB670, REC670, RED670, REG670, REL670, RET670). For 50 Hz setting the reporting rate is increased to 100 fr/s, and for 60 Hz it is increased to120 fr/s. Fault locator for mixed lines, with up to three ends is now available in 670 series. One additional instance of switch on to fault function has been added in RET670. Enhanced monitoring functions to measure DFT or RMS values are now available in 670 and 650 series. New voltage restrained time overcurrent protection VRPVOC has been added in RER670. Phase selection has been enhanced in high-speed distance protection ZMF(C)PDIS, in 670 series. RELEASE OF RELION 670, 650 AND SAM600-IO SERIES 1MRG043109 Page 3/7 Increased setting range for time multiplier for inverse time delay (k-factor) is available in several current related protection functions in 670 and 650 series. Increased set of logic functions in REC670 and RER670 for advanced application logics is now available. The entire list can be found in respective product guides. Enhanced switch control function SCSWI has been released, applicable for 670, 650 and SAM600-IO: o Direct Operate with Enhanced Security has been added o Additional control model which enables reservation separation for open and close directions has been added. Improved phase preference logic PPL2PHIZ for operations in compensated / Petersen coil earthed networks is now available. The improvements are applicable to all 670/650 series products supporting this function. The number of instances has been increased to two, in RET670. The number of instances of ZCVPSOF available in RET670 has been increased to two optional instances. Overvoltage function in RER670 with settable inverse time characteristic has been improved. Applications related – improvements (see each entry for the details about the affected product series): Added current and circuit breaker status check in fuse failure function FUFSPVC in 670 and 650 series, to improve functional accuracy in de-energized and no-load condition power lines. The delta algorithm has been improved by adding further security for 3-phase disturbances, while at the same time ensuring that the function will reset in an actual fault scenario. A potential issue of the active reference impedance being out of range in the functions sensitive rotor earth fault protection, injection based (ROTIPHIZ), and 100% stator earth fault protection, injection based (STTIPHIZ), in REG670, has now been fixed. For 100% stator earth fault protection and injection based STTIPHIZ in REG670, the signal indicating that the injection circuit is open (OPCIRC) has been decoupled from the BLOCK input of the function, and is therefore now able to signal the open injection circuit even when the function is blocked. In 670 series, for the pole slip protection PSPPPAM, there was a risk of the IED failing to boot if the values of StartAngle or TripAngle were set above 170 degrees. This has now been fixed. The high-speed differential protection L4PDIF in RED670 now has an improved algorithm for the evolving fault detection, which was achieved by extending the angle calculation duration and by increasing the angle limit for internal fault check if an internal fault is suspected. In 670 and 650 series, the stability of the frequency-related protection functions rate-of-change of frequency protection SAPFRAC, underfrequency protection SAPTUF and overfrequency protection SAPTOF has now been improved for the system disturbances involving changes of frequency of longer duration. The association of the measured winding current with the selected parameter in the through fault monitoring PTRSTHR function in 670 series has now been fixed. In the estimation of transformer insulation life LOLSPTR function in 670 series, the minimal mass for the winding cores, oil and tank has been defined, to avoid potential calculation issues in case the mass is incorrectly set to 0 tonnes (t). The application and runtime error issue observed when the breaker monitoring function SSCBR was tested with the secondary injection while the breaker position was open has now been fixed, by adding RELEASE OF RELION 670, 650 AND SAM600-IO SERIES 1MRG043109 Page 4/7 further logical conditions that allow for such testing. This is applicable to 670, 650 and SAM600-IO series. The stability of the open CT detection when used without negative sequence fault discriminator has been improved in line differential protection L3CPDIF, L6CPDIF, LT3CPDIF and LT6CPDIF. This was achieved by immediately resetting the open CT detection once the trip has been issued, as well as by prolonging the blocking of the open CT detection after the reset of the trip signal. This fix is available in the respective functions in RED670 and RED650. In the automatic voltage control for tap changer TR1ATCC and TR8ATCC, the hunting detection has been improved, in a way that the set time window for hunting alarm doesn’t freeze, and the number of tap operations is counted correctly, within the set time window. This fix is available in the respective 670 and 650 series products that support voltage control. In RET670 and REC670 with, in the automatic voltage control for tap changer for parallel transformers TR8ATCC, the TIMERON signal that indicates that the raiseor lower command to the tap has been activated, is now not set to logical one if the function is working as a follower. There was a risk of an undesired IED reboot in case the programable curve for overvoltage operation in the multipurpose function CVGAPC resulted with a mathematic expectation (a negative denominator). The formula has now been improved, and the IED reboot for this reason is no longer possible. The improvement is available in 670 and 650 series. In the overexcitation protection OEXPVPH, the activation of the operate timer based on the short spikes of the positive sequence voltage (when inverted phase sequence voltages are connected to the IED), that could in very rare cases cause an unwanted operation, has now been fixed. The fix is available in the respective 670 and 650 series products. Also in the overexcitation protection OEXPVPH, the internal heat accumulation calculation has been improved, so that the unreliable input data that can reach the function during the start-up of the IED is discarded. The fix is available in the respective 670 and 650 series products. In REB670, in the switch status monitoring function BDCGAPC, the issue of the apparatus status being incorrectly reported in the intermediate position after the IED restart, has now been corrected. In CMMXU, VMMXU and VNMMXU measurement functions the integral dead band reporting was in some cases reporting the values that were under the set threshold. This has now been improved. The improvement is available in 670 and 650 series. Communications related – new functionality (applicable to 670, 650 and SAM600-IO series): Support for IEC 61850 Ed 2.1 is now available, together with the previous IEC 61850 Ed 1 and IEC 61850 Ed 2 of the standard. Support of single-mode Ethernet SFPs fiber optics is added. In addition of the existing multi-mode optical LC connector for up to 2 km, and the RJ45 connector, three additional options for Ethernet communication are now available: o Optical LC connector, single-mode for up to 30 km o Optical LC connector, single-mode for up to 60 km o Optical LC connector, single-mode for up to 120 km RELEASE OF RELION 670, 650 AND SAM600-IO SERIES 1MRG043109 Page 5/7 Communications related – improvements (applicable to 670, 650 and SAM600-IO series): LDCM communication stability has been improved for the receiving channel, in situations when an interruption occurs on the transmission channel on the same LDCM. Previously this could have resulted in the prolonged trip times in the affected IED and has now been improved. LDCM working in 2 Mbit/s and echo mode could generate short intermittent blocking signals, resulting in the associated functions being blocked for a few milliseconds, which could occur in situations when the hardware-based time synchronization between the line-ends differ. This has now been fixed. The transition between line differential protection synchronization sources, when the time synchronization is being switched from the GPS to the fast echo LDCM mode, has been improved, in order to eliminate a risk of the line differential protection using unsynchronized current samples. System related – new functionality (applicable to 670, 650 and SAM600-IO series): Support for SNMP for monitoring and device diagnostics is introduced. The RFC 5424 version of Syslog protocol, as defined by IETF, is now supported. The number of calculated analog channels in disturbance recorder has been increased by the following number of channels: o 670 series: 30 additional channels o 650 series: 10 additional channels o SAM600-IO series: 10 additional channels System related – improvements (applicable to 670, 650 and SAM600-IO series): Reading of disturbance recordings in the COMTRADE 2013 format has been improved, as in rare cases users could experience difficulties reading files using IEC 60870-5-103, or via PCM600 tool. Disturbance recording performance has been improved when the maximum number of the recordings (i.e. 200) is already present in the device, and when new recordings are being triggered within short time intervals. Libexpat is updated to version 2.5.0, which is the latest version available as of June 2023. Libexpat is an open-source XML parser library component. Zlib is a lossless data-compression open-source library component for use on virtually any computer hardware and operating system. Zlibis updated to version 1.2.13. This is the latest available version as of June 2023. TLS 1.2 is the only available protocol in 670 2.2.6. TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 protocols are discontinued. A vulnerability that existed in the Relion update package signature validation, which could have been exploited by gaining access to the system with security privileges and thereby attempting to update the IED with a malicious update package, has been fixed. The same improvement will be released for all earlier 670/650/SAM600-IO 2.2 revisions. An earlier vulnerability in the IEC 61850 communication stack has been addressed. An attacker could have exploited the vulnerability by using a specially crafted message sequence, to force the IEC 61850 MMS-server communication stack to stop accepting new MMS-client connections. The same improvement will be released for all earlier 670/650/SAM600-IO 2.2 revisions. Syslog messages have been improved for including the access point number when a login is performed. This fix will also be made available in all earlier 670/650/SAM600-IO 2.2 revisions. RELEASE OF RELION 670, 650 AND SAM600-IO SERIES 1MRG043109 Page 6/7 When voltage measurements are connected in the opposite phase rotation, so that the positive sequence voltage is close to zero, the frequency measurements will be blocked, in order to prevent the wrong operation by the functions using the frequency measurements. In handling different setting groups, an additional setting has been added to ensure a clear hierarchy when handling the setting groups through binary inputs, and through PCM600 / LHMI / IEC 61850. Environment related – improvements (applicable to 670, 650 and SAM600-IO series): In order to reduce the overall footprint of our products, the USB memory stick, IED Connect, previously always included in each IED delivery, now needs to be ordered separately.
