It is an expression to talk about the future. Going to - future Unit 2 (page 23) We use to express two types of situation: People’s intentions We can only have intentions for the future, so although we often use them, adverbs of future time are not always necessary. b) Predictions based on the present time. From what we see around us we believe that something will happen in the very near future. It is used with expressions such as: - tomorrow - tonight - next week/month/year - in a few hours/days - by next week, etc. The structure is: subject + be (am-is-are) + going to + verb (infinitive) EXAMPLES I am going to sing at the party. She is going to sing at the party. He is going to sing at the party. Singular It is going to rain. You are going to sing at the party. We are going to sing at the party. Plural They are going to sing at the party. Negative sentences The structure is: subject + be (am-is-are) + not + going to + verb (infinitive) EXAMPLES: I am not going to sing at the party. (= I’m not) She is not going to sing at the party. (= She isn’t) You are not going to sing at the party. (= You aren’t) The structure is: be (am-is-are) + subject + going to + verb (infinitive) + ? EXAMPLES: Are you going to take a shower? (Yes, I am/ No, I’m not) Is she going to sing at the party? (Yes, she is./ No, she isn’t) Are they going to watch the movie?
