Session 16
More on Creating
Compelling Visions
• Visualization is more than just making pictures in your mind. A lot of smart humans
have come up with specific techniques that'll give you a short cut right to the pot of
gold at the end of the rainbow.
• Visualization is a visual process.
1. We can see what's happening now, see what we remember, or see things we've
never seen (called Visual Construct).
2. Visual Construct is a uniquely human skill.
• When we store our memories, we often store a feeling attached to it as well.
1. If we have troubled childhoods we often don't want to go back and analyze them
because we don't want to reactivate the pain of those memories.
• We normally access pictures by looking up.
• The myth of seeing:
1. We think we're seeing a large area in sharp focus, but actually we see a small area
in sharp focus and the rest is out of focus.
2. Often we can remember dreams more vividly than reality because in dreams
everything is in sharp focus.
• What you use grows in strength, and what you don't atrophies.
• One of the best way to practice Visual Construction is reading fiction.
• Get a child to fantasize and describe their fantasies - it helps to increase intelligence.
The secret is to get our thoughts into words. This is a skill you can improve through
practice.
• For pictures to transform, they must be of a future better than what we have now.
• To create a new reality
1. See it (in greater and great detail, improve it over time).
2. Feel it.
3. Expect it.
a. To break a board in martial arts, you must expect it to happen. It's not a matter
of strength.
b. Expectation is in part an act of faith and courage.
• To be a leader means to be able to create a vision of a reality better than the one we
got. This vision has a power to draw us to it. The leader is the one who creates the
vision.
