Hey honey! How’s it going?
Listen, I’m kind of worried about you. You seem to spend way too much time in front of the
computer! Now, read the text I got from a friend and tell me if I’m not right. Hehehe

KING KONG
After over 70 years, the original movie still has the power to transport the audience into its fantasy
world. I was fascinated by the outstanding technical innovations and the marvelous music. The ‘76 version
was not as good, but I still found the special effects pretty good. Choosing the WTC instead of the Empire
State Building for the finale was a nice touch. But most of all, the nicest feature of this movie was the
explicit affection shown between the giant ape and the screaming heroine.
Now, 30 years after the second version, we find ourselves face to face with the King again. Yes, my
friends, the amazing pre-historical creature is back. I doubted another version would appear so soon, but
here it is.
Well, it is essentially the same movie as the first version but it is 87 minutes longer. Not surprising when
we think of the director’s previous work. But how did he fill these extra minutes? With NOTHING! And worst
of all, the original is a lot more exciting. CGI abounds and that may be what is so wrong about it. Call me
old-fashioned, but I am not really keen on computer generated images, for the simple fact that they look
even less real than the stop motion / monkey suit of the previous versions. Still, I must say I really enjoyed
seeing the beast back on its original “tree” (after 9/11, there wasn’t much of a choice, really).
Naomi Watts does a brilliant job. Jack Black and Adrien Brody, however, deliver such dull performances
that I dare say, even digitally created King delivers some terrific acting if compared to those two.
If you are thinking of watching this film, my advice to you is: do not waste your money. And above all,
let your memory keep those images intact, do not replace them by Beauty killed the Beast. It is more like
computer generated images killed cinema.
