Direito exclusivo de reprodução
Esta edição da Carta 12000 (INT 1) é baseada nas
“Especificações de Cartas da OHI” (Organização
Hidrográfica Internacional), que se consolidaram
durante a XII Conferência Hidrográfica
Internacional realizada em Mônaco, 1982.
A Carta 12000 contém a coletânea completa de
símbolos e abreviaturas que são utilizados nas
cartas náuticas nacionais e internacionais,
produzidas pelo Centro de Hidrografia da Marinha
(CHM) e editadas pela Diretoria de Hidrografia e
Navegação (DHN).
Nas publicações de referência que permanecem
em vigor, os números dos símbolos mencionados
na Carta 12000 (INT 1) podem ainda estar
conforme o padrão antigo, isto é, prefixados com a
letra “I” de Internacional (ex.: IK 28 ao invés de
K 28).
As informações relativas às cartas náuticas, seu
uso, correções e distribuição estão contidas nos
“Avisos aos Navegantes”, assim como no
“Catálogo de Cartas e Publicações”.
Informações adicionais podem ser encontradas
no “Roteiro”, “Lista de Faróis”, “Lista de Auxílios-
Rádio” e “Tábuas das Marés”.
Este catálogo contém a relação de todas as cartas
e publicações produzidas pelo CHM e editadas
pela DHN, incluindo as cartas internacionais do
Atlântico Sul e a GEBCO (Carta Batimétrica Geral
dos Oceanos).
Reproduções de qualquer natureza, mesmo que
parciais, são permitidas somente com a
autorização expressa da DHN. Se algum material
de fonte estrangeira tiver sido incluído nas cartas
da DHN, quaisquer reproduções, incluindo
extratos, somente serão permitidas com a
autorização expressa do serviço hidrográfico
estrangeiro envolvido.
A fonte do material utilizado é listada abaixo do
“Título da Carta” ou no “Diagrama de
Levantamentos”.

O CHM publica quinzenalmente o folheto “Avisos
aos Navegantes”, visando permitir ao navegante a
atualização contínua de suas cartas náuticas e
publicações.
Em cartas onde estiverem representados os
limites de outras cartas ou planos de maior escala,
estas/estes deverão ser preferencialmente
utilizados, por conterem informação mais
detalhada, de cunho essencial à segurança da
navegação, na região cartografada.
As cartas náuticas são construídas na projeção de
Mercator (as exceções são destacadas, para a
correta identificação).
As cartas náuticas destinadas à navegação
ortodrômica são construídas na projeção
Gnomônica.
As cartas náuticas apresentam a situação normal
de balizamento. Em alguns países o balizamento
utilizado durante o inverno é detalhado em
publicações especiais.
As marcações se referem ao norte verdadeiro, e
são representadas em graus e décimos de graus
ou em graus e minutos.
Os valores de profundidades na faixa de 0,1 a 20,9
são representados em metros e decímetros e, na
faixa de 21 a 31, em metros e meio metro.
Profundidades maiores são aproximadas ao metro
inteiro.
A posição geográfica de uma sondagem é o centro
do retângulo imaginário que circunscreve o valor
numérico representativo da profundidade.

O alcance informado nas cartas náuticas
brasileiras é o alcance luminoso, em milhas
náuticas, calculado pela fórmula de Allard,
considerando-se um período noturno, observador
com vista desarmada, ausência de interferência
de luzes de fundo, com coeficiente de
transparência atmosférica (T) igual a 0,85 (oitenta
e cinco centésimos) correspondente a um valor de
visibilidade meteorológica de 18,4 (dezoito vírgula
quatro) milhas náuticas.
Nas cartas náuticas brasileiras são adotados os
seguintes planos de referência:
1) Plano de referência para profundidades e para
redução de sondagens, denominado “Nível de
Redução NR”:
: Nível de redução normalmente
adotado nas cartas de áreas marítimas; e
: Nível de redução a ser adotado
futuramente;
2) Plano de referência para alturas (datum
vertical):
: plano de referência (preferencial) para as
alturas dos vãos livres verticais;
: plano de referência (secundário) para
as alturas dos vãos livres verticais;
: plano de referência para as altitudes das
feições em terra. Em áreas com variação de
maré pouco apreciável, pode ser adotado
como plano de referência para as altitudes de
vãos livres verticais, mediante o uso de Notas
Explicativas; e
.
NR: plano de referência para alturas relativas a
bancos e rochas que são cobertos e
descobertos pela variação de maré (estirâncio).
Estas alturas são representadas por
algarismos sublinhados e aproximadas ao
decímetro.
3) Observações:
a) os planos de referência adotados são
indicados abaixo do título das cartas;
b) nas cartas náuticas de rios, lagos e lagoas
são adotados critérios diferenciados para a
definição dos planos de referênciaacima
descritos;
c) a altura/altitude para vãos livres verticais é
representada com aproximação ao metro
inteiro imediatamente inferior, exceto para a
faixa de 0,1 a 10,0 metros, em que é
representada com aproximação ao decímetro;
d) a altitude para feições em terra
(penhascos, ilhas, etc.) é representada em
metros inteiros, exceto para a faixa de 0,1 a 5,0
metros, em que é representada com
aproximação ao decímetro; e
e) a descrição detalhada das siglas utilizadas
como plano de referência nos casos descritos é
encontrada na seção H (Marés e Correntes)
desta publicação.

This edition of Chart 12000 (INT 1) is based upon
the “Chart Specifications of IHO” (International
Hydrographic Organization), which came into force
at the XII th International Hydrographic Conference
1982 in Monaco.
Chart 12000 contains the complete symbols and
abbreviations used on international as well as
national charts of the Directorate of Hydrographic
and Navigation (DHN).
In existing publications, the numbers of the
symbols in Chart 12000 (INT 1) may still prefixed
with the letter “I” for International (e.g. IK 28 instead
of K 28).
Information concerning charts, their use,
corrections and distribution is contained in the
“Notices to Marines” as well as in the “Catalogue of
Charts and Publications”.
Further information can be found in the “Sailing
Directions”, “List of Lights”, “List of Radio Signals”
and the “Tide Tables”.
This catalogue contains all publications issued by
the CHM and edited by the DHN.
Reproductions of any kind, including partial ones,
are allowed only with the express permission of the
DHN. If foreign source material has been included
in DHN charts, reproductions of any kind, including
extracts, are allowed only with the express
permission of the hydrographic service involved.
The source material used is listed under the “Chart
Title” or in the source data diagram.
The CHM publishes weekly the “Notices to
Marines” for continuous correction of nautical
charts and books.
Where the limits of larger scale charts or plans are
shown, they should normally be used, as they
contain further essential navigational information.

Standard charts are graduated on the Mercator
projection (exceptions are marked).
Great circle charts are graduated on the gnomonic
projection.
The datum for sounding reductions (chart datum)
and the plane of reference for heights (height
datum) are given on nautical charts under the
“Chart Title”.
The charts represent the normal buoyage
condition. In some countries, the type of buoyage
used in winter is detailed in special publications.
Bearings refer to the true compass in degrees and
tenths of degrees, or in degrees and minutes
Depths are given from 0.1 to 20.9 in metres and
decimeters, and from 21 to 31 in metres and half
metre. Greater depths are in whole metres.
The geographical position of a sounding is the
centre of the depth figure.
Range as informed in brazilian nautical charts
means luminous range, in nautical miles.
Heights above chart datum on drying areas are
given in metres and decimeters. The metre figure
is underlined.
Heights above height datum are given in whole
metres except for heights of cliffs and islands,
which are given from 0.1 to 5.0 in metres and
decimeters, and above that in whole metres.
Clearance heights may be referred to a higher
datum than other heights. In such cases it will be
stated in the Explanatory Notes. It is given from 0.1
to 10.0 in metres and decimetres, and above that
in whole metres.
