Introduction This document presents a project proposal for the course “PP321 – Simulação Numérica de Reservatórios”. A reservoir study case is presented to be submitted to decision analysis regarding reservoir development, UNISIM-I-D. The case presents a simulation model created for tD (1461 days), the initial stage of field development, with a total of 4 vertical producers. A history production for 1461 days is provided. This project is divided into two activities using the deterministic case: 1) Activity A: production history matching; 2) Activity B: exploitation strategy optimization. The documentation with information for the development of the simulation model as the model data are available for download. The data set include: • UNISIM-I-D reservoir simulation model in IMEX-CMG format; • 4 vertical production wells; • 1461 days of production data for each well up to 05/31/2017; • a set of reservoir attributes; • economic scenario; • assumptions and the proposal description available at UNISIM-I webpage: http://www.unisim.cepetro.unicamp.br/unisim-i/. The assumptions, operating conditions, mandatory dates and objective-functions, available in the proposal should be followed. 1.1 UNISIM-I-D The UNISIM-I-D simulation model (the same name of the benchmark case consists of approximately 37,000 active grid blocks and contains 4 years of production history. Figure 1 shows the modeled porosity outline with the four initial vertical wells. Activity A In Activity A, a history matching until 1461 days (~ 4 years) must be performed. The model contains 4 vertical producers. 2.1 Objective and steps The objective of this activity is to perform a manual and deterministic history matching process taking into account the following steps: 2.1.1 Diagnosis Compare the results from the simulation model provided with the history data through the analysis of the field average pressure and oil, water and gas flow rates and bottom hole pressure per well. 2.1.2 Global history matching Alter the properties with global influence (for example, relative permeability, water oil contact etc.) and verify the well and field matching. 2.1.3 Local history matching After the global history matching, perform a new diagnosis focusing on the well behavior. Alter the properties with local influence and verify the history matching of the wells (fluid rates and bottom hole pressure). 3. Activity B The objective of this activity is to optimize the design and control variables of the provided exploitation strategy between t1 (after 1461 days of history production) and the maximum final time tF. This project considers the development phase, where design and control variables should be optimized. The economic scenario can be seen in UNISIM-I-D proposal. 3.1 Deterministic approach This activity consists of performing a manual and deterministic optimization process to set up an exploitation strategy for the field development plan for the 26 years of production forecasting aiming to maximize the Net Present Value (NPV). Details regarding decision variables, mandatory dates and assumptions are presented in UNISIM-I- D.pdf (Section 2). 3.2 Software IMEX 2020.10 is the reservoir simulator of this project. MERO 2020.4.0 can be used to obtain production and economic indicators (e.g., tool FOP). The reservoir simulation runs can be launched from MERO. 4. Reports and Presentation An examining board will evaluate the project. The evaluation is divided into two parts: • Oral presentation: o The presentation should contain a brief theory contextualization and focus essentially on the methodology employed and, on the results, achieved in the practical applications developed. Study Case for Oil Field Exploitation Strategy Selection Document: Proposal_PP321_2020_ProjectD1. – Date: 10/20/2020 Page 5 /5 UNISIM-CEPETRO-UNICAMP o The presentation should be made in 20 minutes at maximum. Ten minutes will be reserved for the questions of the members of the examining board. o Presentation date: January 5 and 12, 2021. • Report: o The report should provide a robust theory investigation of the focus, highlighting the main findings. Each procedure adopted must be justified and described and every result presented in graphs and/or tables must be analyzed and discussed in a direct and concise way. A conclusion about the project developed must be exposed. o The report should contain at maximum 8 pages (Including the references). o Submission deadline: January 12, 2021. 5.
