GIS STEPS – EXPORT DIGITAL INFORMATION 1. STEP To do the task we need to use both ArcMap and GlobalMapper. ArcGIS Open the software “Open data” command o Open the document that you want, in this case we need to open a map the shows the location that we want the digital information o For us open the “Admin8.shp” file to import the map of Hungary For the task we want to extract the digital information of Debrecen to work more on it, but the map that we open have all the citys in Hungary, wich we don’t need, so is better to work only with the Debrecen area, to do that: “Selection” ABA o Selection by attributes “NAME” double click = “Debrecen” To see the names go to open feauteres And select your choice o Press “Verify” to see if the equation that you put will running. o If its ok, press OK/Apply After this you will see Debrecen select in Blue on the MAP, this means your command works and now is showing your select attribute. Now that you select, you only want to work with the attribute that you chose. To do that you need to extract what you select from the hole map. Export the Select ATT o With the right bottom go to the layer of Debrecen o “data” o “export data” Selected features: that mean will export your shape of Debrecen Save on your folder After extract the shape you don’t need the hole map to remain open, so remove it for a better operation. Now we need to import the shape of Debrecen on the GlobalMapper. 2. STEP With the GlobalMapper we will get the digital information for the shape that we’re working. GLOBAL MAPPER Zoom in to Hungary “Open Data files” command “Open Data files” command o Open the shape that you create To extract the information you need to export the file. On the layer (debrecen) o Right bottom o “select” On the layer of the MAP (ASTER GDEM) o Right bottom o “layer” o “Export” Ok GeoTIFF On the first aba you chose the “Generate PRJ file” On the 3th aba you select the “crop to select areas features” Ok -> save On this point you already have the digital information about your shape. To keep working on this you need to open it on the Arc Map.
