Family structureFamily structure
Let’s talk about two kinds of families. One is the nuclear family. It is usually small.
That is the mother, father, and children.
Some people live in extended families. An extended family is a big family. In those families we see
the grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, maybe cousins, and grandchildren.
In North America, many people live in families with only the mother and the children or the father
and the children. Usually these parents are divorced. This is a single-parent family.
Here is Anne. She is divorced. She has two children. Her daughter is two and her son is five.
She has an ex-husband. His name is Daniel. She is his ex-wife.
