Who is Nancy Morejón?
Nancy Morejón is a Cuban poet, essayist, and translator. She was born in Havana, Cuba, on August 7, 1944. She has published more than twenty poems, including Where the Island Sleeps Like Wing, Piedra pulida, Botella al mar, Richard trajo su flauta y otros poemas, Cuerda veloz, and Antología poética. She has won several awards, including the National Literature Prize and the Yari-Yari Prize for Contemporary Poetry. She is a member of the jury of the Carbet Prize of the Caribbean and an advisor to the Casa de las Américas. Her work enriches the current of so-called black poetry and delves into issues of daily life, the Cuban revolutionary process, the condition of women, among other topics of interest for her sociocultural context as a contemporary black author.
