What is the process of glomerular filtration and how is it regulated? Process of glomerular filtration Regulation of glomerular filtration Glomerular filtration consists of the formation of an ultrafiltrate from the plasma that passes through the glomerular capillaries. The glomerular capillary wall is composed, from inside to outside of the lumen, of the endothelial cell, the basement membrane, and the epithelial cell. The capillary wall allows the free passage of water and dissolved substances, with a molecular weight of less than 15,000; it is totally impermeable, under normal conditions, to solutes with a molecular weight greater than 70,000 and allows to pass in variable amounts those with a molecular weight between 15,000 and 70,000. The resulting of the set of these forces will condition the greater or lesser amount of filtrate produced by each glomerulus. The main stimulus for the secretion of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) is the increase in plasma osmolarity, although it is also stimulated by the decrease in the volume of extracellular fluid.
