What are the four stages of cognitive development according to Piaget?
Piaget believed that all individuals go through the four stages in exactly the same order. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, during which the infant develops the notion of object permanence. The second stage is the preoperational stage, during which the child develops the ability to use symbols. The third stage is the concrete operational stage, during which the child recognizes the logical stability of the physical world. The fourth stage is the formal operational stage, during which the individual is able to solve abstract problems logically.
