What is hypertension?

Hypertension is an increase in blood pressure inside the arteries.
It can be caused by some diseases, such as kidney disease. In this case, it is called secondary hypertension.
The most common hypertension has no known cause and is called essential hypertension.
It is the most important risk factor for cerebrovascular disease and one of the major risk factors for coronary heart disease.
