What is the treatment for demodicosis in dogs?
The treatment for demodicosis in dogs depends on the type of demodicosis, the age of onset, and the presence of complications such as pyoderma. In cases of localized demodicosis, treatment may not be necessary as the disease may resolve on its own within 6-8 weeks. In cases of generalized demodicosis, treatment with acaricidal drugs is necessary, and the prognosis is less favorable in dogs over two years old. The most commonly used drug for the treatment of demodicosis is amitraz, which is applied topically in solutions of 0.025% to 0.1% every 7 days for 4-5 weeks.
