What are the considerations for emergency surgery in veterinary medicine? Stabilization and correction of dehydration and electrolyte imbalances should be performed before anesthesia. Premedication should be used to decrease maternal anxiety and stress and prevent adverse effects associated with the release of catecholamines. The minimum effective dose of propofol should be used for induction. Oxygenation, blood pressure, and body temperature should be closely monitored and any alterations should be treated promptly.
