Present Simple – Parte 01 
 
Em língua inglesa, usamos o verbo “to be” (ser e estar) para falarmos nosso nome, idade, 
nacionalidade, ocupação…Vejamos exemplos: 
– My name is Anna. [Meu nome é Anna] 
– I’m 22. [Eu tenho 20 anos] 
– I’m American. I’m from Chicago. [Eu sou estadunidense. Eu sou de Chicago] 
– I’m a student. [Eu sou uma estudante] 
– My father is a doctor, and my mother is a journalist. [Meu pai é médico e minha mãe é 
jornalista] 
– My favorite color is blue. [Minha cor favorita é azul] 
– My favorite sports are tennis and swimming. [Meus esportes favoritos são tênis e natação] 
– I’m interested in art. [Eu tenho interesse em arte] 
– I’m not interested in politics. [Eu não tenho interesse em política] 
 
● Estrutura do present simple: 
Assim como todos tempos verbais, o present simple se apresenta nas formas afirmativa, 
negativa e interrogativa. Vamos estudar cada uma delas. 
 
(1) Affirmative [Forma Afirmativa] 
– I am (I’m) 
– he/she/it is (he’s/she’s/it’s) 
– we/you/they are (we’re/you’re/they’re) 
 
(2) Negative [Forma Negativa] 
– I am not (I’m not) 
– he/she/it is not (he’s not/she’s not/it’s not ou he isn’t/she isn’t/it isn’t) 
– we/you/they are not (we’re not/you’re not/they’re not ou we aren’t/you aren’t/they 
aren’t) 
 
Vejamos mais exemplos para internalizar a estrutura: 
– I’m tired, but I’m not hungry. 
– I’m 32 years old. My sister is 29.

– Alex is scared of dogs. 
– Jane is Australian. She isn’t American. 
– These flowers are nice, and they aren’t expensive. 
– It’s 10:00. You’re late again. 
– I’m cold. Can I close the window? 
 
– James isn’t a teacher. He’s a student. 
– Anna and I are good friends. 
– Paris is a beautiful city. 
 
– Our house is near downtown. 
– Tom isn’t here. He’s at work. 
– Your keys are on the table. 
 
● Abreviações específicas: 
– that’s = that is [esse, essa, isso é/aquele, aquela, aquilo é] 
– there’s = there is [há/existe algo ou alguém] 
– here’s = here is [aqui está algo ou alguém]

1 – Write the short form [Escreva a forma abreviada]

3 - Complete the sentences [Complete as sentenças] 
a) Matt is sick. He’s in bed. 
b) I’m not hungry, but I’m thirsty. 
c) Mr. Thomas is a very old man. He’s 98. 
d) These chairs aren’t beautiful, but they’re comfortable. 
e) The weather is nice today. It’s warm and sunny. 
f) “I’m late.” “No, I’m not. I’m early!” 
g) Catherine isn’t at home. She’s at work. 
h) “Here’s your coat.” “Oh, thank you very much.” 
 
4 - Write true sentences, affirmative or negative. Use is/isn’t or are/aren’t. [Escreva 
sentenças verdadeiras, afirmativas ou negativas. Use is/isn’t ou are/aren’t] 
a) (it / hot today) = It isn’t hot today or It’s hot today. 
b) (it / windy) = It isn’t windy today or It’s windy today. 
c) (my hand / cold) = My hands aren’t cold or My hands are cold. 
d) (Brazil / a very big country) = Brazil is a very big country. 
e) (diamonds/ cheap) = Diamonds aren’t cheap. 
f) (Quebec / in the United States) = Quebec isn’t in the United States. 
 
5 - Write true sentences, affirmative or negative. Use I’m / I’m not. 
a) (tired) = I’m tired or I’m not tired. 
b) (hungry) = I’m hungry or I’m not hungry. 
c) (in bed) = I’m in bed or I’m not in bed. 
d) (interested in politics) = I’m interested in politics or I’m not interested in politics.
