What are the indications, actions, and doses of Xylazine in veterinary medicine?
Xylazine is an analgesic, sedative, non-narcotic, and muscle relaxant. The effects of Xylazine are mediated by depression of the central nervous system. Xylazine can be administered by IV or IM. The immobilization occurs between three to five minutes after IV injection or 10 to 15 minutes after IM injection. The analgesia lasts from 15 to 30 minutes, but the drowsy state persists for one to two hours.
