What is the procedure for measuring central venous pressure using a monitor?
The procedure involves determining the pressure of blood in the right atrium or vein using a central catheter inserted through the subclavian, jugular, basilic, cephalic or saphenous veins and recorded through a monitor. The values considered normal are: in the vena cava from 6 to 12 cm of water and in the right atrium from 0 to 4 cm of water. The objective of the procedure is to evaluate the hemodynamic status of the right heart, as well as to detect cardiac anomalies and alterations in blood volume.
