What is the correct treatment for Mycoplasma haemofelis in cats?
The treatment includes tetracycline and prednisone until the Coombs test is negative. If the cat develops fever due to tetracyclines, doxycycline, enrofloxacin, or chloramphenicol can be administered. The diagnosis is made by direct visualization of the parasite in a blood smear, PCR, and Coombs test. The risk factors in the feline species are stress, previous history of abscess due to bite, positive infection with FIV, FeLV, or PIF, and free-living cats.
