1  Código: 32390 - Enunciado: Describing a text genre means thinking about its social function,
style (including predominant text types) and thematic scope. The “chat” genre presents informal
content/themes, normally based on specific codes shared by the participants. Its social function
is enabling people who are physically separate to maintain conversational relationships. It is
strongly connected to contemporary job market demands.Analyze the chat genre in terms of
style:
 a) It refers to experiences the interactants have in common.
 b) It is devoid of prosody marks due to its written modality.
 c) Its prosody marks are indicated by graphic resources.
 d) It is punctuated by long utterances in written modality.
 e) Its strict punctuation is an influence of the oral modality.
Alternativa marcada:
e) Its strict punctuation is an influence of the oral modality.
Justificativa: Correct answer:Its prosody marks are indicated by graphic resources.Style, within
the chat genre, is punctuated by short utterances, influenced by orality. Prosody marks are
indicated by graphic resources such as capital letters, alternative punctuation, emoticons and
typing/answering delay (in synchronous interaction). Distractors:It refers to experiences the
interactants have in common. Genre analysis is rendered through an examination of
content/themes, social function and style. The experiences shared by participants are related to
the content/themes axis, not to the style axis.It is devoid of prosody marks due to its written

2  Código: 32400 - Enunciado: A lesson plan designed around the job interview genre
may present interview videos featuring candidates from dierent countries and
ask/help students to compare them. Students can discuss dierent job interview contexts in
Brazil where the English language is used, for example, in multinational companies — where the
interviewer can be a foreigner or not, and talk about concepts of work, economy, job market
(with or without the assistance of texts), comparing the way these concepts are dealt with in
Brazil and in other countries.Analyze the lesson plan, considering which cross-cutting theme it
better implements:

a) Cultural plurality.
Justificativa: Correct answer:Cultural plurality. This cross-cutting theme emphasizes studies of
human beings as agents and producers of culture, which is plural and, therefore, impacts
discursive constructs within its dierent exponents of linguistic diversity. Distractors:Ethical
issues. Incorrect: this cross-cutting theme emphasizes the study of socially discussed and
accepted notions of moral, ethics and truth, as applied to decision-making processes in everyday
life.Environment. Incorrect: this cross-cutting theme emphasizes the study of global and local
environment, its relationship with human endeavors and the most fundamental issued raised by
contemporary dealings with nature.Health issues. Incorrect: this cross-cutting theme emphasizes
the holistic study of health, as applicable to everyday human action and as the main issues raised
by contemporary dealings with the human body and its well-being.Sexual orientation.
Incorrect: this cross-cutting theme addresses sexual education, including the discussion of sexual
identities and their means of expression in contemporary society as well as any health and
politics-related issue that might arise from such expressions.
3  Código: 32378 - Enunciado: According to Oliveira (2016), "reading activities can be a very strong
pedagogical option to promote an eective discussion about cultural and social issues in the
classroom." By choosing texts which deal with relevant cultural and social questions, such as:
protests, vandalism, religion, political engagement, ghetto culture, multicultural society etc.,
material designers can suggest pre-reading and post-reading activities that follow some of the
intercultural perspective conceptions with tasks that aim to stimulate learnersʼ criticism and
point of view through open-answers. However, the majority of reading activities suggested tasks
with closed-answers which emphasized the discussion of lexical and grammatical
components.Identify the criterium in the Programa Nacional do Livro Didático – PNLD which the
mentioned book author does not follow:
 a) Including pre, during and post tasks.
 b) Highlighting cultural plurality traits.
 c) Developing socially critical awareness.
 d) Contextualized linguistic knowledge.
 e) Connecting texts to students' lives.
Alternativa marcada:
d) Contextualized linguistic knowledge.
Justificativa: Correct answer:Contextualized linguistic knowledge. This criterium indicates that
grammar should be presented within the scope of each chosen text, considering it as a whole
genre and with a focus on its communicative and social functions. Distractors:Connecting texts to
students' lives. Incorrect: this criterium indicates that all tasks should be connected to students'
realities, something which is provided by the themes of social interest and the possibility of
discussing them through open-ended questions.Highlighting cultural plurality traits. Incorrect:
this criterium indicates that all tasks should include representative samples of social diversity,
something which is provided by text selections including socially relevant polemics.Including
pre, during and post tasks. Incorrect: this criterium indicates that all texts should be
contextualized, worked with and lead to some kind of production, something which is provided
by the reading tasks mentioned in pre-reading and post-reading activitiesDeveloping socially
critical awareness. Incorrect: this criterium indicates that all tasks should encourage autonomous
analysis of each text in order to allow students to follow through in their reading proficiency
development, something with is provided by the focus on debating socially relevant issues.

integration of writing, reading and speaking, while working with internet-based genres and e-
texts, what could help shy students.Integrating speaking skills. Incorrect: speaking skills are a set
of abilities which is normally already worked with in integration. The statement mentions the
possibility of integrating writing, reading and listening to this set. Without the participation of the
other skill sets there would be no real integration.Working with visual literacy. Incorrect: the
statement does not directly mention an opportunity for the work with visual texts, but
encourages an integrated approach to the four basic skills – reading, writing, listening and
speaking, while working with internet-based genres and e-texts, what could help shy students.
5  Código: 31554 - Enunciado: Morrow (1977) defines an authentic text as "a stretch of real
language, produced by a real speaker or writer for a real audience and designed to convey a real
message of some sort".When selecting genre samples to compose a course book unit, authors
needs to:
 a) Guarantee that all of the selected genre samples have been produced by native speakers
of the intended target language.
 b) Hire actors to reinterpret adapted audiovisual files and rewrite textual input, respecting
each grade's level of proficiency.
 c) Consider their relationship with the students' native language by showcasing genres
which can be translated with ease.
 d) Choose text samples which are representative of the standards in terms of grammar rules
for the target language.

and distribution specificities.
Alternativa marcada:

distribution specificities.
Justificativa: Correct answer: Transpose contextual characteristics that might help students
analyze their production and distribution specificities.Correct, because this option considers the
need to convey contextual information on real language production as suggested by the cited
definition. Distrators:Guarantee that all of the selected genre samples have been produced by
native speakers of the intended target language. Incorrect, because this does not answer to the
need of gathering stretches of real language production.Consider their relationship with the
students' native language by showcasing genres which can be translated with ease. Incorrect,
because this is not related to the contextual production factors emphasized in the
citation.Choose text samples which are representative of the standards in terms of grammar rules

6  Código: 31537 - Enunciado: The Programa Nacional do Livro Didático – PNLD requires inclusion
and discussion of aesthetic manifestations in the target language. These works of art should be
appreciated not only in relation to their formal, stylistic structure but also to their social function
- inspiring physical, emotional and mental responses which are unique to each individual's life
perspective and sense of joy.Considering a genre-based approach to foreign language teaching,
works of art should be discussed as a means of:
 a) Fostering students' appreciation and sense of pleasure when interacting with aesthetic
manifestations.
 b) Developing students' good taste and a critical understanding of the target language
literary canon.
 c) Complexifying students' understanding and practice with specific grammar and
vocabulary structures.
 d) Introducing students to specific text genres, such as reports, critiques and related art-
driven productions.
 e) Raising students' awareness on how to interpret contemporary art according to critique
standards.
Alternativa marcada:
b) Developing students' good taste and a critical understanding of the target language literary
canon.
Justificativa: Correct answer:Fostering students' appreciation and sense of pleasure when
interacting with aesthetic manifestations.Correct, because it considers the social function of
artistic works, as stated in the PNLD criteria. Distractors:Developing students' good taste and a
critical understanding of the target language literary canon. Incorrect, because it mentions good
taste and suggests biased appreciation, which is in conflict with genre analysis. It also focuses on
a single representation of art.Raising students' awareness on how to interpret contemporary art
according to critique standards. Incorrect, because genre approaches focus on multiple
interpretation possiblities and critique standards suggest a biased approach to genre
analysis.Complexifying students' understanding and practice with specific grammar and
vocabulary structures. Incorrect, because it proposes the inclusion of art as a means of working
with systemic knowledge only.Introducing students to specific text genres, such as reports,
critiques and related art-driven productions. Incorrect, because it does not focus on works of art
as genres on their own.

7  Código: 31559 - Enunciado: You are analyzing a book you mean to adopt with a public high
school group. While checking its writing activities, you come across a proposal of resume
development that elicits students previous knowledge on the genre, presents samples in English
and guidelines for their analysis. Aer that, it asks students to create their own resumes and rate
their productions according to the previously mentioned guidelines. The Programa Nacional do
Livro Didático lists evaluative opportunities and communicative practice as relevant aspects to be
considered by authors of any English materials.Analyzing the description, can we state that
the author of this book has worked with the development of the four communicative skills and
oered integrated self-evaluation opportunities? Justify your answer.
Resposta:
The author hasn't worked with the development of the four communicative skills because he
didn't oered a speaking and listening activity for the students to practice on. He has oered self-
evaluation opportunities, but only for the writing and reading activities.

Comentários: You should explain it better...The activity does not work with the four skills
integratedly. It focuses on written modalities only. However, it oers a self-evaluation
opportunity when it asks students to rate their productions according to the guidelines for
resume writing.

8  Código: 32420 - Enunciado: Daily listening practices involve preparation, interpretation and
production moments. When adapted to classroom practice, they need to be intrinsically
motivating. They also need to be based on authentic recordings/audiovisual texts – since re-
enactments will hinder the teacherʼs work with each genre.Illustrate what the text means by
authentic materials for the purpose of listening skills development. Give at least five examples.
Justify your answer.
Resposta:
For listening skills development with authentic materials should use videos/audio recording that
the students are interested in. For example, a vlog, that the person is talking about their daily life
being a foreigner in a English speaking country, and then they would do their own vlog; a short-
story movie, with least complicaded vocabulary for the students to easily understand and later,
do their own short-story; an interview of a cast of a famous movie, then they can be interested
and the genre of the class can be about TV/movie theatre; an episode of a TV show, that talks
about travelling, then the class, can be about the cultural of other countries and the project can
be about the students doing their own travel schedule; a news that talks about how English
learning in non English speaking, aects the students and their perspective, then let the students
talk about their perspective of the matter.
Comentários: Very good ideas...
Justificativa: Expected answer:Students need to mention at least five of the following materials:
original news broadcasting pieces; movie excerpts; music videoclips; original talkshows and
other TV programs; recordings from conversations, street interaction, interviews or any other
spoken genre produced in English; computer remasterized voices (as in instructions for
navigation applications) etc. Justifying may follow the model: These examples illustrate
authentic materials for listening skills development because they keep the original
characteristics of the genres they will represent in class. Therefore, teachers are able to discuss
not only form, but also function and style, adopting a genre-based approach to teaching.
