Section 4: Grammar systematization - Talking about past events · Objective: Presenting grammar structure in an organized way. · Text genres: excerpts from the text about Jhon and Lucy’s trip. Section 5: Controlled practice · Objective: Reinforcing past structures. Learn the different ways the -ed is pronounced. · Text genres: Phrases to be completed by the students according to the text. Have students work in pairs to discuss the questions and round off by asking each pair what they thought was most important and least important. 2. Tell the students they are reading a text about an unsuccessful trip and give them 5 minutes to read and answer the questions individually. Have students check their answers in pairs and then correct it as a class. 3. Call students’ attention to the language reference and point out the different spelling rules for the regular verbs in the affirmative. Teach students how in the negative sentences, the main verb is not flexed and the use of did. 4. Ask students to work individually completing the exercise with the correct sentences. Have them check in pairs and correct it as a class. 5. Refer students to the pronunciation rules of -ed. Show them the examples given. 6. Remind students to refer to the language presented in the beginning of the page and tell them they are working in pairs to write the past form of the verbs. When they are done correct the exercise as a class. For the pronunciation exercise, the teacher reads each of the verbs in the simple past and have students check which pronunciation is correct for each verb. Do a repetition drill to practice pronunciation. 7. Have students work in trios to talk about their last trip using the language recently acquired. Listen actively for mistakes and note them down for late correction. Ask students to talk about one of their peers last trip.
