Exchange Students must have completed at least one aca-
demic year at the home university and be nominated by the 
sending partner institution 
Language Proficiency 
Please note that most courses are taught in German and that 
only limited offers for courses are available in English. 
No formal requirement; but expecting intermediate language 
proficiency in German equivalent to B1. 
Medicine and Dentistry require C1 for the practical year. 
If courses in English are chosen, B2 is required (IELTS 5.5, 
TOEFL iBT 71, TOEFL ITP 527)

Application Process 
This online-application system is valid for ALL EXCHANGE-
students (Bachelor, Master, Ph.D.). 
 
Online application 
winter term: Mid/end of May - July 15 
summer term: Mid/end of November - January 15.

 Create an account at the online platform JOGUStINE 
 Receive password automatically via e-mail 
 Log onto the online application system 
 Answer all mandatory questions 
 Send the application online 
 
Letter of Admission 
 After successful admission, the Letter of Acceptance will 
be uploaded to JOGU-StINe, where it can be downloaded 
and printed at "Application">"Documents">"My Docu-
ments". 
 The letters of admission are verified and thus also valid for 
the German authorities at home and abroad. The letter of 
admission is an official confirmation that the admitted stu-
dent can study at the JGU. 
 The letters of admission are uploaded from mid-July to 
mid-September for the winter semester and from mid-Jan-
uary to mid-March for the summer semester

: The student must download and save this offi-
cial letter of admission in time as long as the applicant ac-
count is still active. Storage on an external medium is recom-
mended. The student will also need your letter of admission in 
order to enroll at JGU. 
 
The application for studies does not include an application for 
a room in the dormitories. Nominees need to apply for a room 
in the dormitories directly with the Team Housing International 
of the Studierendenwerk Mainz.

The ISSK (international language center) offers German lan-
guage courses for exchange students.

Special Offer: Exchange Students are guaranteed a place in 
one of the students’ dormitories if they have applied on time 
(for the winter term: July 15th; for the summer term: January 
15th)

In order to enroll, you need a valid health insurance which is 
equivalent to EHIC (European Health Insurance Card).
