Monopolar 36 • Each terminal has two converters of equal rated voltage, connected in series on the DC side. • The junctions between the converters is grounded. • If one pole is isolated due to fault, the other pole can operate with ground and carry half the rated load (or more using overload capabilities of its converter line). Bipolar 37 • It has two or more conductors all having the same polarity, usually negative. • Since the corona effect in DC transmission lines is less for negative polarity, homopolar link is usually operated with negative polarity. • The return path for such a system is through ground. PROBLEMS • The Design of grounding electrodes for low cost of installation and maintenance • Location and screening of electrodes so that ground currents cause negligible electrolytic corrosion of buried and immersed metallic structures. EARTH ELECTRODE • HVDC system requires a properly designed earth electrode at each station. • The electrode is situated at a safe distance (5 to 30 km) from the station. • The earth electrode at one of the station acts as a anode and at the other end acts as a cathode. RECENT ADVANCES • GTO’s have come into use. • Use of active ac and dc filters. • Advanced fully digital control systems using optical fibers. 2004 Year: 3000 Power rating (MW): 500 DC voltage (kV): 980 Length of DC line (km): Guizhou – Guangdong I - China converter station 2003 Year: 3000 Power rating (MW): 500 DC voltage (kV): 860 Length of DC line (km): Three Gorges – Changzhou - China Converter transformers 1970 Year: 3100 Power rating (MW): 500 DC voltage (kV): 1362 Length of DC line (km): Pacific DC Intertie - USA Valve hall 1984 Year: 3150 Power rating (MW): 600 DC voltage (kV): 805 Length of DC line (km): Itaipu - Brazil Overview of the plant 2010 Year: 4000 Power rating (MW): ± 660 DC voltage (kV): 1348 Length of DC line (km): Ningxia - Shandong - China Overview of the plant 2010 Year: 5000 Power rating (MW): ± 800 DC voltage (kV): 1418 Length of DC line (km): Yunnan – Guangdong - China A transmission tower (Pylon) 2013 Year: 6400 Power rating (MW): ± 500 DC voltage (kV): 1286 Length of DC line (km): Xiluodo – Guangdong - China Inner view of the station 2010 Year: 6400 Power rating (MW): ± 800 DC voltage (kV): 2071 Length of DC line (km): Xiangjiaba – Shanghai - China Converter HVDC Transformers 2012 Year: 7200 Power rating: ± 800 DC voltage (kV) 2100 Length of DC line: Jinping – Sunan - East China 800 kV UHVDC Transformer in comparison with a VOLVO car HVDC BIPOLAR TRANSMISSION SYSTEM 2 DOUBLE CIRCUIT HVAC TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS 2000 MW HVDC VIS- A- VIS – HVAC SYSTEMS Aspectos Gerais Situação no Mundo O que Caracteriza a Transmissão CCAT (HVDC) Principais projetos e aplicações As Estações Conversoras e Composição de Preços Dispositivos Semicondutores Topologias e configurações Desenvolvimentos recentes na China e Índia Desempenho Operacional Aspectos de Projeto CCAT Experiências diante de Grandes Eventos UNIFEI – EEN-908 Situação no Mundo UNIFEI – EEN-908 O que Caracteriza a CCAT Sistemas Síncronos Interligados 3 Condutores (Trifásico) Subestações de Controle de Tensão e de Manobra a cada 300 a 400 km UNIFEI – EEN-908 Sistemas Assíncronos Interligados 2 Condutores (Pólos + e -) Transmissão Direta Características da Transmissão CA Intercâmbio de Reativos Função da distância e carregamento da linha UNIFEI – EEN-908 Características da Transmissão CA UNIFEI – EEN-908 UNIFEI – EEN-908
