Did you know that the largest forest in 
the Arabian Peninsula is found in 
Yemen? Did you also know that fog 
covers this forest three months out of 
the year? This place is known as Hawf 
Reserve. This reserve is located in Al 
Mahra Governorate near the Omani 
border, in southeastern Yemen. It 
overlooks the Arabian Sea. 
 
هل تعرف ان اكبر غابات الجزيرة العربية 
موجودة في اليمن؟ وهل تعرف ايضا ان هذه 
الغابة يغطيها الضباب ثالثة شهور في السنة؟ 
ية هذه المحم. هذه المنطقة تدعى محمية حوف
تقع في محافظة المهرة القريبة من الحدود 
العمانية، جنوب شرق اليمن، وهي تطل على بحر 
 . العرب
Hawf Reserve is considered one of the 
most beautiful tourist areas in all of 
Yemen because of its green trees, its 
diverse wildlife, and its freshwater 
springs. 
 
تعتبر محمية حوف واحدة من اجمل المناطق 
السياحية في اليمن، بسب اشجارها الخضراء، 
 . حيواناتها البرية المتنوعة وينابيعها العذبة
This reserve covers an estimated area 
of around 30,000 hectares and its 
elevation gradually ascends to 1,400 
meters above sea level. 
 
 03.333هذه المحمية تقدر مساحتها بحوالي 
متر فوق 0033هكتار، وترتفع تدريجيا الى 
 . مستوى سطح البحر
This reserve has a unique climate. 
From October to May, the weather is 
dry and very hot. However, from June 
to September, the weather is humid, 
the temperature is moderate, and the 
average rainfall is 300-800 millimeters. 
During this time, the trees obtain their 
water from the clouds. In fact, they 
receive more water from the clouds 
than from rainfall. This makes the area 
incredibly unique in terms of 
biodiversity. Praise God! 
 
تتمتع هذه المحمية بمناخ فريد من نوعه، ففي 
الفترة ما بين اكتوبر حتى مايو، يكون الطقس 
فيها جاف وحار مرة، لكن من شهر يونيو 
لسبتمبر الطقس هناك رطب ودرجة الحرارة 
 033الى 033معتدلة، وتسقط األمطار بمعدل 
على الماء وخالل هذه الفترة االشجار تحصل . ملم
من الغيوم، في الحقيقة انها تحصل على الماء من 
وهذا الشيء يجعل . الغيوم اكثر من االمطار
المنطقة فريدة من نوعها من حيث التنوع البيئي،

Tropical plants are spread throughout 
Hawf Reserve; experts say there are 
about 220 plant species. Rural villagers 
benefit from the plants and trees of this 
 
تنتشر في محمية حوف النباتات االستوائية، يقول 
. نوع من النباتات 223الخبراء انه فيها حوالي 
سكان المناطق الريفية هناك يستفيدوا من 
reserve, using it as food, fuel, and 
medical treatment.

The reserve is also home to many wild 
mammals, including the Arabian wolf, 
the gazelle, and the caracal. It is also 
home to the Arabian leopard, which, 
unfortunately, is endangered. 
 
وطن لكثير من الثدييات هذه المحمية هي م
البرية، مثل الذئب العربي والغزال والوشق، 
وايضا هذه المحمية موطن النمر العربي وهو 
 . لالسف مهدد باالنقراض
This reserve is a shelter for many birds 
– both resident and migratory, including 
eagles. It contains 65 bird species, six 
of which are rare. 
 
وهي مأوى لكثير من الطيور المقيمة والمهاجرة، 
نوع من 56بما في ذلك النسور، تحتوي على 
 . الطيور، ستة منها من األنواع النادرة

splendor of the reserve’s marine life, 
where you come across an abundance 
of marine biodiversity, including crabs, 
sharks, and dolphins. This reserve is 
also the habitat of endangered sea 
turtles.

البحرية المتنوعة مثل السرطان اسماك القرش 
غيرها، هذه المحمية ايضا هي موطن والدالفين و

Nowadays, Hawf Reserve has become 
a visitor attraction -- people from 
various governorates head there in 
order to enjoy the captivating natural 
environment. When you visit this area, I 
ask you to make sure it stays clean. Do 
not throw plastic bags and food scraps 
on the ground. Let us keep our country 
beautiful. 
 
محمية حوف اليوم اصبحت منطقة جذب للزوار 
الذين يقصدونها من مختلف المحافظات حتى 
. يقضوا وقت ممتع في اجواء الطبيعة الساحرة
