Presenter: The Yemen Family Care 
Association organized a training 
workshop on how to treat battered 
women. 
 
نظمت جمعية رعاية االسرة اليمنية : المذيع
 . ورشة تدريبية في التعامل مع المعنفات
Reporter: In order to help health 
workers and police officers gain skills in 
how to treat battered women -- to 
develop their capacity and help them 
gain skills in dealing with gender-based 
violence -- a training workshop began 
today in Sana. It was organized by the 
Yemen Family Care Association, in 
collaboration with Oxfam Novib 
organization. 
 
إلكساب العاملين الصحيين والضباط في : المراسل
اقسام الشرطة مهارات التعامل مع المعنفات 
وبناء قدراتهم واكسابهم مهارات تنعكس على 
التعامل مع العنف القائم على اساس النوع 
االجتماعي، بُدءت اليوم بصنعاء الورشة 
التدريبية للتعامل مع هذه الشريحة، والتي نظمتها 
ية االسرة بالتعاون مع منظمة جمعية رعا

Journalist: Violence that is directed 
towards women and children is a silent 
occurrence. Our conservative society is 
a society that encourages silence on 
these matters. It believes it is best not 
to discuss this practice, even though it 
is commonplace. This stems from the 
patriarchal structure of our society, as 
men believe they have a right to 
behave this way. 
 
ظاهرة العنف على المستوى الوطني هي : صحفي
ظاهرة صامتة، العنف تجاه النساء واألطفال، 
المجتمع المحافظ هو مجتمع يقوم بالتصميت على 
هذه الظواهر ويرى انو من الالئق عدم الحديث 
عن هذه الممارسة، رغم انه هي احد اكثر 
الممارسات شيوعا في هذا المجتمع، ضمن البنية 
لتي تحكمه، والذي يرى الرجال ان هذا الذكورية ا
 . حق لهم
Doctor Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibani 
(Director General of Planning at the 
Ministry of the Interior): I believe that 
this workshop is very important, as it 
will improve police officers' ability to 
help battered women at police stations. 
I believe that this workshop will have a 
positive impact on police officers' skills. 
We lack many skills in this regard and 
this workshop will be a quantum leap 
forward.

جدا فيما يتعلق برفع مهارات وقدرات منتسبي 
الشرطة، في كيفية طرق التعامل مع المعنفات في 
اعتقد ان هذه الورشة . مراكز واقسام الشرطة
ستكون لها دور ايجابي في قضية رفع القدرات، 
احنا نفتقد الى كثير من المهارات في هذا الجانب

Reporter: Many speeches were 
delivered during the workshop – all of 
which emphasized the role that the 
participants need to play in applying all 
the information and skills they will learn 
out in the field. This will contribute to 
raising awareness of how battered 
women ought to be treated.

Dr. Mohammed Khalidi (a consultant): 
The workshop’s goal is to strengthen 
the knowledge of specialized doctors 
and the police in how to provide 
psychological support and how to treat 
victims of violence in general. Providing 
psychological support is done by 
calming her down, listening to her, and 
having her feel a sense of security. 
Also, by letting her know that she has 
rights.

Reporter: During this three-day period, 
participants receive lectures and learn 
about social and psychological ways to 
protect battered women and integrate 
them into society.

االجتماعية والنفسية في كيفية الدفاع عن النساء
