Leia o texto abaixo sobre as novas literaturas em inglês, também chamadas de “Literaturas Pós-coloniais”.

There was a radical change in the literatures in English after WWII, when the newly liberated colonies in Asia, Africa
and the Caribbean as well as the former settlement colonies: Canada, Australia and New Zealand, started
producing their own national literatures in English, or better, in englishes, as Ashcroft et al (1989) announced more
than a decade ago. These new marginal talents have acquired signicant and representative voices, to the point
that in the last years some Nobel Prizes and most Booker Prizes have not stayed in Europe or in the United States,
but have emigrated to Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Canada. Therefore, the big names against which new writers
in English measure their talent have not come from England or the United States lately, but from the former
colonies. It is these literatures that have brought about a renovation to canonical literatures.

Choose the correct alternative:
It was after WWII that the former English colonies started producing their national
literatures in English.

Read poem 441 by Emily Dickinson:

This is my letter to the World
That never wrote to Me-
The simple News that Nature told-
With tender Majesty

Her message is committed
To Hands I cannot see -
For love of Her - Sweet - countrymen
Judge Tenderly - of Me

In this poem:
Her poetry is the way she found to communicate with the world.

Read the text below on Shakespeare´s tragedies by Ian Johnston:

Shakespeare's plays are all about one great general theme: disorder. This may sound like a profound statement,
but, as we shall see in a moment, it applies equally well to almost all drama. Still, the point is worth stressing, for
reasons we shall attend to in a moment, because the major entry into every play we read is going to be an attempt
to answer some key questions associated with that notion of disorder: What is the order in this society? How is
that order violated? How do the characters respond to the loss of traditional order? How is order restored? Is the
new order at the end of the play something healthy or is it shot through with ironic resonance?

Consider the following statements based on the text above:

I-Disorder is limited to the exposition.
II-It applies only to tragedies.
III-Drama exposes and questions the reasons that provoke disorder.

Choose the Correct Alternative.
III.

Read the plot of The Boy Next Door

The main character in this novel is Melissa Fuller, but "You can call me Mel", as she says. Mel is a  gossip columnist
for the New York Journal and has just broken up with her longtime boyfriend, Aaron Spender. Her best friend,
Nadine Wilcock, a food critic, is marrying her boyfriend, Tony Salerno, who is a chef at the popular restaurant
Fresche. Melissa also has many coworkers, including Dolly Vargas, an outlandish Style Editor who has her eyes on
quite a few men.
The book starts with Melissa being late to work after nding her neighbour, Mrs. Helen Friedlander, facedown on
the carpet of her apartment after a brutal attack. Mel gets her to the hospital but has yet to solve the problem of
walking Paco, Mrs. Friedlander's Great Dane. She calls upon Mrs. Friedlander's nephew, Max Friedlander, to come
and take care of Paco and the two cats Tweedledum and Mr. Peepers. Max, who is on vacation with the
supermodel Vivica, calls upon his millionaire friend John Trent, who is a crime reporter for the  New York Chronicle,
the  Journal's top competitor. John impersonates Max and moves into Max's Aunt Helen's apartment.
John and Melissa get o to a good start after sharing mutual aections for not only each other, but other things as
well. They go on a date but are stopped by Tweedledum's hospitalization. Afterwards, John kisses Mel over Chinese
food, and gets mixed reactions from her as she jumps o to her apartment.
John is troubled over whether he should sleep with Mel. Heasks for advice from his family, including his
grandmother, Genevieve Randolph Trent, his rich brother Jason Trent, and his sister-in-law, Stacy Trent. They each
feel that he should go for it. He does, in fact, take Mel out for dinner and afterward, they have sex. They express
their love for each other.

Read the excerpt below of an article published on Standford University site, then read the statements below, after
that choose the alternative that only presents correct statements according to the content of the text.

GRADING IS NOT THE SAME AS ASSESSING
Traditionally, many teachers have evaluated their students’ knowledge by giving examinations and papers, often
only at the middle and end of the quarter. As a result, a professor lecturing to a large introductory class might not
recognize until nal exams are nished that students consistently confused two important and closely related
ideas.
Other professors, who track their students’ work more regularly—through problem sets, for example— might
assume that such written homework is helping achieve a major goal of the course, such as to develop students’
general problem-solving ability. Yet students who do well on homework might be unable to apply their knowledge
to the novel situations created for exams; they’ve learned how to follow the textbook examples without
understanding larger principles of problem solving.
In-course assessment techniques systematize the process of getting useful and timely feedback on student
learning.

apenas I e II.
Pergunta 10

According to John Frow (2010): “Genre theory should be about the way in which dierent structures of meaning
and truth are produced in and by various ways of writing, talking, painting, lming and acting by which the
universe of discourse is structured. That is why genres matter: they are central to human meaning-making and to
the social struggle over meaning”.

Consider the following alternatives:

I-Genres apply to dierent discursive forms.
II-What matters about genres is how they produce and dene meaning.
III-Genres are directly related to a community´s ght over meaning.

Choose the correct answer:
I, II, III.
