Nos processos de leitura e descrição das realidades sociais, literatura e Antropologia se tocam e se
afastam em diferentes pontos. A partir dessas interseções e afastamentos, podemos dizer que:
Literatura e antropologia usam os mesmos métodos, regras e procedimentos para realizarem suas
leituras culturais.
Os pontos de contato entre essas duas interfaces de leitura social são tão pequenos que não
merecem atenção.
 O romance e a etnografia possuem pontos de interseção no que diz respeito à linguagem, mas cada
uma usa regras e métodos distintos para ler uma realidade cultural.
A literatura está apenas preocupada com a ficção e não serve para ler as questões sociais de um
determinado grupo social.
A etnografia é mais acurada que o romance para descrever um determinado grupo social.

Ballad
A popular narrative song passed down orally. In the English tradition, it usually follows a form of rhymed

anonymous and recount tragic, comic, or heroic stories with emphasis on a central dramatic event;
examples include ''Barbara Allen'' and ''John Henry.'' Beginning in the Renaissance, poets have adapted

Layamon's Brut has an important role in Arthurian stories¿ spread. What was priest Layamon's attempt
with this compilation?
 Layamon¿s Brut was the first national epic in English, and priest Layamon was attempting to
reinforce English culture and identity jeopardized by French culture because of the Norman
invasion.
The search for "Englishness" was a driving force at that moment, so Layamon wanted to make an
investigation on the racial "melting pot" of the English people.
National identity was at stake at that moment, as Danish and Goth invasions wanted to
subordinate English culture.  Layamon¿s Brut was a call to rebellion, trying to convince people to
join the war of resistance.
Priest Layamon wanted to translate the Anglo-Norman Roman de Brut by Wace and Latin Historia
Regum Britanniae, by Geoffrey of Monmouth.
Discontent with the relationship between clergy and monarchy, priest Layamon created this
character, King Arthur, being a generous King, friendly to clergy but also people.
