Acknowledgments
I am greatly indebted to Per Jensen and an anonymous reviewer who offered

and colleagues (too numerous to name) who have contributed either directly or
indirectly to the ideas contained in this paper. I would also like to thank Harold
Musselman, my high school biology teacher, who first introduced me to the
formal study of zoology and Dr John King, my mentor in graduate school, who
gave me the training and encouragement to embark on a career in zoology and
who provided me with the necessary resources and inspiration to engage in
domestication research. Lastly, I am indebted to my wife, Mabell, for the many
