Principais Controles Sobre a Porosidade
A seleção granulométrica é o controle textural determinante sobre a porosidade. A diagênese tende a atuar predominantemente no sentido de reduzir a porosidade.
Obs: rochas de granulometrias mais grossas tendem a ser pior selecionadas, por isso apresentam, em geral, porosidade menor!

Principais Controles Sobre a Permeabilidade
 O tamanho dos grãos é o fator textural de maior importância sobre a permeabilidade, a seleção granulométrica é também relativamente importante. A diagênese tende a atuar predominantemente no sentido de reduzir a porosidade e a permeabilidade (mas nem sempre).
Obs: rochas de granulometrias mais grossas tendem a ter poros maiores, por isso apresentam, em geral, permeabilidade maior!

 Associando os controles principais sobre a porosidade (seleção granulométrica) e sobre a permeabilidade (tamanhos de grãos), pode-se concluir que, em arenitos limpos e pouco afetados pela diagênese, quanto maior a porosidade menor a permeabilidade!
 Arenitos mais finos tendem a ter maior porosidade e menor permeabilidade. Arenitos mais grossos tendem a ter menor porosidade e maior permeabilidade.

Atenção: a não linearidade do comportamento K x Phi indica o uso de métodos não lineares para correlação e estimativa da permeabilidade a partir de perfis. Ou então a segmentação do dataset em fácies.

Observação
Em depósitos fluviais/aluviais, a permeabilidade costuma crescer sempre com o aumento da granulometria. Já nos turbiditos, a permeabilidade costuma crescer com o aumento da granulometria até uma determinada faixa granulométrica situada dentro da fração areia, depois costuma decrescer com o aumento da granulometria devido à presença freqüente de intraclastos, litoclastos, cimentos periféricos, etc. Além destes efeitos, nos turbiditos ocorre a gradação de cauda grossa (coarse tail grading, que dificulta o aumento da permeabilidade nos horizontes mais grosseiros pelo fato de a matriz ser fina.
