Profa. Nazareth Rocha Organization of the vascular system of the human kidney (not drawn to scale). The course and distribution of the intrarenal blood vessels are depicted; peritubular capillaries are not shown. The renal artery branches to form interlobar arteries (1), which give rise to arcuate arteries (2). Arcuate arteries lead to interlobular arteries (3), which radiate toward the renal capsule and branch to form afferent arterioles (5). Afferent arterioles branch to form glomerular capillary networks (i.e., glomeruli: 7a, 7b) which then coalesce to form efferent arterioles (6). The efferent arterioles of the superficial nephrons form capillary networks (not shown) that suffuse the cells in the cortex. The efferent arterioles of the juxtamedullary nephrons divide into descending vasa recta (8), which form capillary networks that supply blood to the outer and inner medulla (8a). Blood from the peritubular capillaries enters, consecutively, the stellate vein (4), interlobular vein (3a), arcuate vein (2a), and interlobar vein (1a). Excreção de produtos do metabolismo, de substâncias químicas estranhas, de fármacos e de metabólitos hormonais. Ex.: uréia, creatinina, ácido úrico, produtos finais da degradação da hemoglobina. Regulação do equilíbrio ácido-básico e eletrolítico. Regulação da pressão arterial. Regulação da produção de eritrócitos. Regulação da produção de 1,25- diidroxivitamina D3. Síntese de glicose.
