Time

Preparation
Duplicate worksheets and cut out bingo cards. Make
enough for each student to have one bingo card.
Procedure
1. Distribute worksheets. Tell students they are going to
play a bingo game. Elicit the goal of bingo – to get four
squares in a horizontal row, vertical row, or diagonal.
2. Tell students they are going to ask each other
Wh- questions about vacations. When someone gives an
answer that includes the words in a bingo square, students
check (✓) that square and write the person’s name in
it. Students should ask Wh- questions only, not yes / no
questions.
3. Model the activity. Point to the upper-left answer in the
first card (last summer). Elicit some Wh- questions that
could be answered using these words, for example: When
did you go to . . . ? When did you take your last vacation?
If students suggest a yes / no question, remind them only
to ask Wh- questions.
4. Class activity: Have students get up and walk around
the room, asking and answering Wh- questions. Students
should continue working until they have checked four
squares in a row or diagonally.
Group work: Divide the class into groups of four to
six students. If possible, assign each group an area of
the classroom. Have them move around, asking and
answering questions.
5. As students are working, walk around to monitor the
activity and help as needed. Make sure they are only
asking Wh- questions, not yes / no questions. Make note
of any errors or problems to review later. End the activity
promptly after 20 minutes.
