What is the Plano de Fechamento de Mina (PFM) and what are the rules for presenting it?
The PFM is a plan that establishes the rules for the closure of a mine.
The PFM must be presented upon request for mineral extraction registration and renewed every 5 years.
The PFM must contain maps, photographs, and images demonstrating the current situation of the area and its surroundings, documentation describing the current situation of the area, a project of the mining infrastructure, a conceptual project of decommissioning of civil structures, actions of rehabilitation of the area already executed, main actions of monitoring and maintenance planned in the area, and a physical and financial schedule integrating pre-closure, closure, and post-closure actions.
The rules for presenting the PFM are established in the ANM Resolution No. 68, of April 30, 2021, which revokes the Mining Regulatory Norms No. 20.4 and No. 20.5, approved by DNPM Ordinance No. 237, of October 18, 2001.
