The function of the relay in the car horn system is to control the flow of electrical current to the horn. When the horn switch is pressed, it connects the relay coil to ground, which activates the relay. Once activated, the relay allows battery current to flow to the horn, producing the sound. The relay essentially acts as a switch, separating the two electrically conductive contacts and completing the circuit for the horn. It is usually located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) in the engine compartment.
