Orra and Choudhury [13] carried out experiments using horizontal, vertical, and elliptical micro-textured cutting inserts. A reduction of 11.9% in the coefficient of friction was noticed when vertical textured tools were employed. The authors reported that the micro-textured cutting inserts presented a reduction in flank wear, which led to a reduction in the cutting force, irrespectively of cutting speed tested. However, when MoS2 solid lubricant was used, efficiency decreased significantly at higher cutting speed, probably because MoS2 became unstable and accelerated tool wear.
