The M-CHAT scale is a questionnaire that should be performed with parents or caregivers of the child in session, from 16 to 30 months, if it presents any sign compatible with the suspicion of autism.
The scale consists of 23 questions of the type 'yes' and 'no', which should be filled out by the parents or caregivers who are accompanying the child in the consultation.
For each 'no' answer, 1 point is given. The only items that if the answer is 'yes' will be scored with 1 point are the following: 11, 18, 20, 22.
If the child obtains more than 3 points from any of the items, he or she is considered at risk for autism. If he or she obtains 2 points derived from critical items, which are questions (2, 7, 9, 13, 14, and 15), he or she is also considered at risk for autism.

A escala é composta por 23 perguntas do tipo 'sim' e 'não', que devem ser respondidas pelos pais ou cuidadores que estão acompanhando a criança na consulta.
