An experiment carried out in the Tapajós National Forest, in Pará, aimed to identify the role of reduced rainfall on the Amazon rainforest due to global warming. For this purpose, between 2000 and 2004, a severe drought situation was simulated in a one-hectare area of native vegetation, called the 'study area'. The results obtained were compared with data from another area with similar size, vegetation, and structure that had not been exposed to drought, called the 'control area'.
