This dissertation investigates the life trajectory of Maria Amanda Paranaguá Dória, a intimate friend, a lady-in-waiting of Princess Isabel and baronesa de Loreto. She was born in Salvador in 1849, 'Amandinha', as was affectionately called, belonged to a family that experienced a considerable social ascension from the process of Independence of Brazil. Moving to the Court in 1854, the girl entered the palace through the good relations cultivated by her maternal grandfather, Joaquim Vasconcellos, visconde de Montserrat. An accident as a child, caused by Princess Isabel, blinded the right view of 'Amandinha', but this allowed a closer approximation between the two grils and their families for the rest of their lives. Amanda married the bachelor and Bahian politician, Franklin Doria, entered the abolitionist campaign, in the context of which she was named lady-in-waiting and for which she conquered the baronate. At the time of the proclamation of the Republic, the baronesa followed with the emperors deposed to the exile, in Europe, from where she returned in 1890, reestablishing herself in Rio de Janeiro, where she died in 1931. Before she died, the noble left lots of documentation about the Empire, entrusted to the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro, under the title of 'coleção baronesa de Loreto', which we use here to put light on her life trajectory.
