O conto gato preto foi escrito por Edgar Allan Poe em 1843.

A man tells his own story. He was passionate about animals, always had many. She got married early and was lucky enough to meet a woman who also loved animals. They had many, from fish to a monkey, but what he liked most was a very large black cat, which he called Pluto. Over time, the man became impatient, irritated, and lost his affection for animals, except for Pluto. The man drank heavily, and one day when he came home drunk, he pierced his cat's eyes. Not satisfied, he picked up a rope and hanged his cat on a tree. The next day, he had awakened with a shout of "fire!". It was his house on fire. The next day, she went to her house to see what was left. Only one wall was standing, with the marks of a hanged cat. He then set off to look for a cat like Pluto, and found one, with only one difference, had a white spot on his chest. The man had hatred of the pussy, while his wife had him as a favorite animal. He tried to avoid the cat, who followed him everywhere. One day, coming down the cellar stairs, the cat curled up in his legs. Angrily, the man took an ax to kill the animal, but his wife stepped forward and received a blow to the head. He died without even shouting. He took the wife's corpse and hid it in a newly cemented wall. The cat never showed up again. The police searched the whole house. On leaving, the man surrenders and confesses to the brutal crime.
