What is the treatment for Group B Streptococcus?
The specific treatment for GBS will depend on the timing of the diagnosis of the infection. Ampicillin plus an aminoglycoside is the initial treatment chosen for a newborn with a presumptive invasive GBS infection. Penicillin G alone can be used when GBS has been identified as the cause of the infection and when clinical and microbiological results have been documented. Antiviral drugs are the main treatment for GBS infections.
