– Apostila 5 – The Genitive Case
· We use (‘s) or “of” to talk about something that belongs to someone or something.
· We use (‘s) to talk about something that belongs to somebody or animals, for exemple:
1. Jhon’s hat.
1. Jhon’s car.
1. Mary’s cat.
1. Mary’s purse.
1. The cats’ toy. (two cats or more)
1. Fred’s father is very cool. 
· We use “of” to talk about something that belongs to a Thing or a place, for example:
1. The handle of the door.
1. The leg of the chair.
1. The day of Christmas.
1. The end of the book.
TIP: Use the possessive ‘s for animate and of for inanimate nouns.
– Mini conversation –
Read the conversation bellow and 
Sara: Hey, Mary! How are you doing? It’s been so long. 
Mary: I’m Great. How about you, Sara? Yeah, long time no see, right?
Sara: I’m fine too. Wow, time flies! I saw in your Instagram account you got married. 
Mary: Yes. I got married last year and I’m pregnant.
Sara: Really? Congratulations! And how about the baby in the pictures of your account? He is so cute. Is he your son? 
Mary: Oh no. That’s my nephew. He is my husband’s sister’s baby.
Sara: Oh, I see. Look, there is a car over there, it looks like it’s coming this way. Is that your husband’s car? 
Mary: No, I don’t know whose car is that.
Sara: That’s weird. Whose car is that, then? 
Mary: I don’t know. We could get closer then figure it out.
Sara: Sure! Great idea!
Lea: Mary I just came here to pick you up.
Mary: Oh, I didn’t recognise it was your car. Sara, this is my sister Lea. 
Sara: Nice to meet you Lea!
Lea: Nice to meet you too, Sara.
